Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Chapter One: 'The Boy in the Iceberg' Aang's body is found by a brother and sister who are from which of the following?

Answer: Water Tribes

Katara and Sokka, both siblings from the Southern Water Tribe, find Aang and his flying bison, Appa, trapped in an iceberg. Aang, as it's discovered, is an Airbender. Coincidentally, Katara is a Waterbender. Aang plans to bring her up to the Northern Tribes in an effort to find her someone who can teach her lessons in how to hone her abilities.

At the same time, Prince Zuko and Master Iroh of the Fire Nation are on the search for the Avatar, missing from the world for one hundred years, but Aang doesn't seem to be aware of this (having been gone just as long). When he sets off a Fire Nation flare by accident, he manages to alert Zuko to his location.
2. Chapter Two: 'The Avatar Returns' When Aang flees Prince Zuko's ship, he escapes via which means?

Answer: On Appa's back

Aang takes responsibility for the flare but when he returns to the Waterbender village, Sokka banishes him. Aang and Appa leave, but Zuko and the Fire Nation fleet, on the way to find the Avatar, head to the village shortly after. It's enough reason for Aang to return and make himself known, heading out with Zuko to have him spare the village. He leaves Appa with the tribe.

Aang escapes with ease, using his powers to navigate the Fire Nation ship and grab his belongings, but not before encountering Zuko in his chambers and fighting for his life. Aang is nearly drowned when he falls overboard into the ocean, but he survives using Waterbending. Appa, Katara, and Sokka arrive just in time to fly him away and they head off to the North Pole.
3. Chapter Three: 'The Southern Air Temple' Returning to his home, Aang finds Momo, the last of which creature in the Southern Air Temple?

Answer: Lemur

Aang and co., en route to their next stop, decide to visit his old home at the Southern Air Temple. Upon arriving, they discover that the Airbenders were all killed in a great battle against the Fire Nation-- his mentor included-- and he's the last one alive. The news is enough to force Aang to grieve in his Avatar form. He learns about his history in the Avatar cycle, but there's no time to waste as the temples around the world are made aware of his return. The group leaves, bringing a local lemur with them.

Commander Zhao, meanwhile, criticizes Zuko and Iroh for their failure facing off against Aang when they return to the Fire Nation. Zhao removes Zuko from the responsibility of finding the Avatar altogether and it leads to a duel that Zuko inevitably wins.
4. Chapter Four: "The Warriors of Kyoshi" All of the warriors found at this island are which of these?

Answer: Female

With multiple sightings of the Avatar in the world, it comes as a surprise to most when Aang and the others head to Kyoshi Island to ride the elephant koi and encounter the Earth Kingdom's Kyoshi Warriors, female fighters who are surprised to find the Avatar alive and well. In the meantime, Sokka gets some combat training from the leader of the warriors.

But word of Aang's presence on Kyoshi gets to Zuko and the Fire Nation as well, and this results in an attack on the region that leaves it in ruins. Aang and the gang manage to escape with their lives, but at a major cost.
5. Chapter Five: 'The King of Omashu' Aang is brought before the King of Omashu after destroying a shipment of which of these?

Answer: Cabbages

Aang and co. come across the city of Omashu, part of the Earth Kingdom. The city is known for its unique methods of transporting goods through chutes and tunnels, a fact that leads the group to take a dangerous ride through the city causing immense amounts of damage to buildings and cabbages.

The King ultimately deems that the group be spared to enjoy a feast, but only because he recognizes Aang as the Avatar. It leads the trio to being imprisoned until Aang can prove himself across a handful of challenges put forth. Aang succeeds across all of them to discover that the King of Omashu is actually a friend from his youth a hundred years ago. No harm done, and it's all a good lesson in his quest to defeat the Fire Nation.
6. Chapter Six: 'Imprisoned' The Earthbenders are able to escape the Fire Nation prison using which of these?

Answer: Coal

Aang, Katara, and Sokka come across an Earthbender in their travels and follow him back to his village to ask him about his abilities. As it turns out, the boy, Haru, is from a village occupied by the Fire Nation (stealing coal from the mines for their ships) and earthbending is forbidden.

The Fire Nation catches wind of his activities and he's taken to prison as a result. Katara, feeling responsible, allows herself to be taken prisoner as well by faking earthbending. She's taken to a Fire Nation shipyard and placed into a cell, and from there she's able to help the Earthbenders use the hoarded coal to break free.

While Aang, Katara, and Sokka continue their journey, the Earthbenders return home intent on reclaiming their town.
7. Chapter Seven: 'Winter Solstice Part 1: The Spirit World' Aang is asked to help an Earth Kingdom village ward off Hei Bai. What is Hei Bai?

Answer: A spirit monster

Aang, Katara, and Sokka stumble upon a burned out forest that seems to have been taken out by the Fire Nation. It allows them to come across villagers who need help, and it's there that they find people under attack of a spirit monster, Hei Bai, who has abducted one of their own in advance of the Winter Solstice, when the Spirit World and the real world are most connected. Aang tries to help and he does reach the Spirit World, but not before Sokka is taken as well. Fortunately, Aang is able to succeed in calming Hei Bai, the spirit of the burned forest, and save Sokka, but not before he's shown that he will need to speak to Avatar Roku on the Winter Solstice.

Master Iroh and Zuko, meanwhile, come across Earth Kingdom soldiers, but hold their own.
8. Chapter Eight: 'Winter Solstice Part 2: Avatar Roku' Aang has to speak to Avatar Roku at a temple on a crescent-shaped island. To which faction does this island belong?

Answer: Fire Nation

To speak to Avatar Roku and get to the bottom of his visions, Aang has to go to the Fire Nation to visit a local temple in time for the solstice. He barely misses running into Zuko and Iroh when he leaves, and the two pursue him back into the Fire Nation from which Zuko was banished.

This results in a race through the crescent-shaped island where, ultimately, Aang makes it through to Avatar Roku and he is told of a comet expected to arrive in less than a year. The comet has the power to make the Firebenders more powerful, and if this happens, they'll destroy the world in their conquest. To beat them, Aang has to master all four elements, and to start that journey Roku bestows his own power upon him, destroying the temple, but allowing the group to escape.
9. Chapter Nine: 'The Waterbending Scroll' Katara steals a waterbending scroll from which of these?

Answer: Pirates

Aang's talk with Master Roku puts him on edge and it leads Katara to start teaching him waterbending to get an early edge before his official training. He takes to it naturally, but a mistake leaves him and the others needing to buy new supplies. It's in a local pirate shop that Katara comes across a scroll containing waterbending techniques and to stick it to the thieves she steals it.

It leads to a chase and the attention of Prince Zuko's men and the trio are captured. It's only using the scroll (and some tricks) that they're able to get away yet again.
10. Chapter Ten: 'Jet' Who does not agree with Jet's plans to fight back against the Fire Nation?

Answer: Sokka

After Momo is caught in a trap, Aang and the others try to evade the Fire Nation by walking through the woods on Sokka's plan. It gets them seen almost immediately, but they're saved by a band of 'freedom fighters' led by a guy named Jet. They inform the group that the Fire Nation has taken over a nearby Earth village and everyone agrees to work together to expel them from it...except Sokka.

It turns out that Jet has gone a bit rogue. In an effort to stop the Fire Nation, he plans to flood the town, killing the Earth citizens too. Only Sokka can save the town, warning them in time to avoid Jet's plans.
