A Munchkin is a native of the fictional Munchkin Country in the Oz books by American author L. Frank Baum. In the book L. Frank Baum clearly states that blue is the munchkin's favourite colour. They will only wear clothes that are shades of blue and some have hair and beards that are blue. Blue is the flag colour of Munchkin Country in Oz.

The movie "The Wizard of Oz", does not follow the book and the munchkins appear in a variety of colours to take advantage of the new Technicolor process used in movies.
