Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the chronologically last of Murry family books to include Mr. and Mrs. Murry (as of 2003)?

Answer: "An Acceptable Time"

"A Wrinkle in Time" is the first introduction to the Murrys; "A Wind in the Door" takes place next because Meg is still in high school; "Many Waters" is next because the twins comment on Meg being in college; "A Swiftly Tilting Planet" is next to last because Meg is married and pregnant; "An Acceptable Time" is obviously last since the main character, Polly, is the child Meg is pregnant with in "A Swiftly Tilting Planet". Mr. and Mrs. Murry are in all of the books regarding their children and their grand-daughter, Polly comes to stay with them in the last one.
2. In "A Wrinkle in Time" and "A Wind in the Door", the Murrys have a dog named Fortinbras; what famous author used this name?

Answer: Shakespeare

A character in Shakespeare's "Hamlet" is named Fortinbras. I'd assume this is where the Murrys (and Madeline L'Engle) got the name.
3. What smooth talking young man can be found trying to start romantic relationships with both Polly and Vicki?

Answer: Zachary Gray

Zachary Gray appears in "An Acceptable Time" as a kinda former boyfriend of Polly O'Keefe (daughter of Meg Murry and Calvin O'Keefe; making her the neice of Charles Wallace Murry). He also appears in "A Ring of Endless Light" as a romantic interest for Vicki Austin. In the Disney movie of this novel, Ryan Merriman played the guy with whom Vicki ended up.
4. In her theological/biographical novel "Bright Evening Star", Madeline L'Engle says that her father fought in which war?

Answer: World War I

His lungs were badly burned by mustard gas in the war.
5. Which Madeline L'Engle novel takes its title directly from the Bible?

Answer: "Many Waters"

"Many waters cannot quench love; Neither can the floods drown it" This is from Song of Songs / Song of Solomon (depending on your version). Yalith quotes it to the twins, Sandy and Dennys, before she leaves with the seraphim.
6. What physical feature does Calvin O'Keefe compliment Meg on in "A Wrinkle in Time"?

Answer: her eyes

He says that she has "dreamboat" eyes and that she should keep her glasses on because he doesn't want anyone else to see her eyes.
7. In "Many Waters" what do many of the ancient people call Sandy and Dennys?

Answer: giants

Because the twins are almost six feet tall and everyone else is tiny, the twins are often called giants.
8. In "A Swiftly Tilting Planet," what are Charles Wallace and Mr. Murry building?

Answer: tesseract

They are building a model of a tesseract.
9. Which character from the Murry family series is NOT present in "A Swiftly Tilting Planet?"

Answer: Calvin

Meg talks to Calvin on the phone, but he's not with the family. Surprisingly, his mother still comes - fate, I guess.
10. What animal is a main part of the L'Engle story "A Ring of Endless Light"?

Answer: dolphin

Vicki has a special gift with dolphins.
