Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 'Mariel of Redwall', Gabool was an insane searat who ruled Terramort. Which of these is not correct?

Answer: He was killed by Mariel

Although Mariel and Rawnblade both wanted to kill Gabool, Gabool drove Rawnblade into a room which contained his scorpion. However, Rawnblade flung the scorpion onto Gabool, and Gabool was stung to death.
2. Gabool killed three of his own Captains during 'Mariel of Redwall'. What were their names?

Answer: Bludrigg, Saltar and Flogga

Bludrigg wanted his share of treasure, so Gabool killed him. Then Bludrigg's brother, Saltar, heard about his death, so he challenged Gabool to a duel. Gabool won. Then Flogga was mistaken for someone else, and was thrown to the scorpion. Blaggut, Slipp and Urgan Nagru were vermin in 'The Bellmaker', Halfchop, Slipback and Flinky were vermin in 'Loamhedge' and Agarnu, Sarengo and Bladd were Pure Ferrets in 'Triss'.
3. Some vermin reformed during the books. Most of them were rats. Which of these did not at least partially reform?

Answer: Jeefra

Jeefra was the son of Riggu Felis in 'High Rhulain'. He was drowned by his brother Pitru when their boat overturned. Romsca was a searat during 'Pearls of Lutra'. Blaggut was the only searat to survive his ship's crash as well as his Captain, Slipp (see 'The Bellmaker').

When they were allowed inside Redwall, Slipp killed Mellus, and the searats fled into the woods, where Blaggut strangled Slipp for killing Mellus. He then went back to Redwall. Veil was the son of Swartt Sixclaw, a ferret known for his sixclawed paw. Veil was raised at Redwall, but he became an outcast after trying to poison the cook. Bryony, the mouse that brought Veil up, followed him to a battle, where Veil took a spear meant for Bryony, thus proving he had some good in him. (Sorry about all the long explanation!)
4. Some characters had odd body parts. Which of these had a fake nose?

Answer: Chopsnout

Chopsnout was a corsair fox in 'The Legend of Luke'. Sometimes his false nose fell off, and Chopsnout's crew laughed at Chopsnout when that happened. Plumnose was a tracker vermin in 'Loamhedge', who had an oversized nose. Halfchop had no deformities with his nose, and Riggu Felis in 'High Rhulain' had his nose ripped off but he never replaced it.
5. What was the name Little Redd gave himself when he became leader of a vermin band?

Answer: Badredd

Badredd was flattered during his leadership, and the vermin under him often said insults about him behind his back. Once, one of the vermin described his bottom like "two sour apples in a sack".
6. Riggu Felis was a wildcat with a mate and two sons. Who was his mate?

Answer: Lady Kaltag

Tsarmina was a wildcat in 'Mossflower'. Hinso was a guard who served under Pitru, Felis' son. Romsca was a searat in 'Pearls of Lutra'. Kaltag, Felis' mate, was driven mad when her one of her sons, Jeefra, was found dead in a lake. First she blamed her son's death on Riggu Felis, then when Leatho Shellhound was captured, she said that Leatho was Jeefra's killer.

She never thought that Pitru, Jeefra's real killer, was the culprit. She set the fortress on fire, screeching to Leatho "you cannot escape a mother's vengeance!" She died during the fire.
7. How do you spell the name of Gingivere's mate?

Answer: Sandingomm

After Gingivere left Brockhall, he met Sandingomm. They lived on a farm, which was decided to be the place the woodlanders went to when they had to leave Brockhall. Supposedly Squire Julian Gingivere in 'Redwall' was distantly related to Gingivere.
8. Ferahgo the Assassin in 'Salamandastron' had a son, Klitch. When Klitch first met Mara and Pikkle Ffolger, he had someone else with him. Who was Klitch's 'friend'?

Answer: Goffa

Farran was a poisoner fox. Ferahgo was back at his camp, and Oxeye was a big hare who Ferahgo's Corpsemakers captured.
9. How did Grissoul, Sawney Rath's Seer fox, die?

Answer: She just did

Grissoul was in Ruggan Bor's camp when it happened. She looked into some flames and said a rhyme, then died of mysterious causes. Even though Ermath, Ruggan's Seer, did not like Grissoul, she never poisoned her. Deyna, or Tagg, was not anywhere close at the time.
10. Finally, what was King Sarengo's favourite weapon and what species was he?

Answer: Mace and chain, pure ferret

When King Sarengo died in Brockhall, his son Agarnu, six rats and a golden hamster were the only ones to escape. Agarnu grew up and raised his son, Bladd, and daughter, Kurda. Kurda and Bladd were sent to sea to capture Triss, Shogg and Welfo as well as to retrieve Sarengo's crown and pawring. Kurda carried a sabre, while Bladd carried a mace and chain, "just like my grandpa had!"
