Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Number of UK Deputy Prime Ministers 1942-2018.

Answer: 8

The position of Deputy Prime Minister is one to which a person is appointed solely at the discretion of the Prime Minister. The people that have held this post are Clement Atlee (1942-1945), Herbert Morrison (1945-1951), Anthony Eden (1951-1955), Rab Butler (1962-1963), Geoffrey Howe (1989-1990), Michael Heseltine (1995-1997), John Prescott (1997-2007) and Nick Clegg (2010-2015).
2. Number of member states in European Union when Croatia joined in 2013.

Answer: 28

In 2013, Croatia became the first country to join the EU since Bulgaria and Romania did in 2007 and took the number of languages recognised by EU to over 30, as although many countries have the same official language, for example Germany, Austria and Luxembourg all have German as an official language, many members also have secondary minority languages such as Frisian (Netherlands), Scottish Gaelic (UK) and Galician (Spain).
3. Number of guns The Alarm had in their 1983 hit record.

Answer: 68

"68 Guns" was the biggest UK hit for The Alarm and while it brought them attention in USA, their biggest hit in that country was "Sold Me Down The River" in 1989, which had a version of the same song in their native Welsh as the B side, entitled "Gwerthoch Fi I Lawr Yr Afon".
4. The bike number made famous by motorcycle racer Marco Simoncelli and retired following his death in 2011.

Answer: 58

Simoncelli first wore number 58 during his first full season in Moto GP 125cc in 2003 and continued with it when he moved up to 250cc in 2005 and also when he made the step up to the Moto GP championship in 2010. In just his second season in the championship, Simoncelli was involved in an accident with Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards at Sepang, Malaysia. Tragically Simoncelli was pronounced dead less than an hour after the accident.

He was just 24 years old.
5. Number of keys on a regular piano.

Answer: 88

A regular piano contains 52 white keys and 36 black keys. Although piano keys used to be made of ebony and ivory, the majority nowadays use plastic for the white keys as it chips less easily than ivory and usually basswood for the black keys, although spruce will often be used in higher quality, more expensive pianos.
6. The number of slots on a North American roulette wheel.

Answer: 38

American roulette wheels have the numbers 1 to 36, a zero and a double zero. giving a total of 38 slots, whereas a European wheel doesn't have the double zero. This double zero means that the "house edge" in American roulette is 5.26%. compared to just 2.7% in European, so the house stands a much better chance of taking your money in American roulette.
7. Distance in yards from the goal line to the edge of the penalty area in football (soccer).

Answer: 18

The penalty area is also known as the 18 yard box, as it covers the area 18 yards out from the goal line as well as 18 yards from inside of each goal post to the corresponding edge of the box.
8. A long produced model of Oldsmobile that shares its name with a short-lived model from Saab.

Answer: 98

The Oldsmobile 98 was made from 1940 to 1996 and was a model 90 with an eight cylinder engine, hence 98. The Saab 98 was built in very small numbers between 1974 and 1976, as a prototype vehicle before being shelved. Only one of the vehicles remains and it can be seen in the Saab Museum in Trollhattan, Sweden.
9. The number of contiguous states in USA.

Answer: 48

Obviously Hawaii and Alaska are not contiguous as Hawaii is an island and Alaska is disconnected from the rest of USA by Canada.
10. The number of cards found in a tarot deck.

Answer: 78

A tarot deck comprises 4 suits, each of which has 14 cards (one through to ten and King, Queen, Knight and Knave), as well as a separate 21-card trump suit and a stand alone card called the Fool.
