Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following is unique to a green pepper?

Answer: The males stand on end

Strange but true, the 'male' green pepper has 4 distinct 'feet', which allows it to be balanced and stand up on its end. A female will have only 3 'feet', thereby being unbalanced. Check it out next time you are at the grocery store!
2. Which of the following has NEVER occurred in golf anywhere in the history of the game?

Answer: The modern Grand Slam being won in a year.

The modern Grand Slam (Masters, US Open, British Open, and PGA) has never been won in the same year. Tiger Woods won 3 of 4 in 2000 and has won all 4 in a row, but not in the same calendar year. Bobby Jones won the 'Old' Grand Slam (British Amateur and Open, US Amateur and Open). The other three have occurred on multiple occasions.
3. Which of the following is believed by some scientists to have once been a moon of another planet in our solar system?

Answer: Pluto

Pluto may have been a satellite to the planet Neptune.
4. Which of the following is the fastest (in MPH)?

Answer: The speed of light

The speed of light is known as the 'Universal Speed Limit'. Nothing known to man can go faster than the speed of light. It is theorized, however, that time travel is possible, if we can travel faster than the speed of light. This is due to the theory that when the speed of light is approached, time slows down eventually to zero (when the speed of light is reached).
5. '20' is the number on top (12 o'clock), but what is the number (wedged between 17 and 19)at the BOTTOM (6 o'clock) of a dart board?

Answer: Three

6. How many Friday the 13ths are or were in 2001 (Try it without looking at a calendar)?

Answer: Two

One in April and one in July.
7. In chess, what are the least number of moves a player can make to put his or her opponent into checkmate?

Answer: Two

8. What serial killer performed his crimes in Kansas City?

Answer: Bob Berdella

Berdella killed six young men in KC from 1984 to 1988. Gacy was in Chicago, Bundy in Seattle, and Costa is not a serial killer (I hope :0).
9. Which color is defined, with respect to light waves, as 'the presence of all colors'?

Answer: White

On the flip side, black is defined as the absence of all colors. You would think the opposite makes more sense!
10. In a vacuum, such as space, sound does what?

Answer: Sound does not travel in a vacuum

Ever notice how a radio comes in clearer on a rainy night? The sound has water to travel on!
11. Which of the following states does NOT border another country?

Answer: Wisconsin

Vermont and New Hampshire all barely touch Canada on their North end. Idaho has a part that extends to Canada between Montana and Washington.
12. Mars, like Earth, has one moon?

Answer: False

Mars has TWO {moons;} Phobos and Deimos. Both were discovered in 1877.
13. What is the estimated elevation of Mt. Everest?

Answer: 29,023 feet

14. In contrast to our last question, What is the estimated depth of the Mariana Trench at its deepest point?

Answer: 36,918 feet

The Titanic was found approximately 12,500 feet down, only a third of the depth of the Trench. And recovery of the Titanic artifacts has proven extremely difficult! Translated into miles, this is 6.992 mi!
15. How many Kelvins equal 0 degrees F?

Answer: 259.67 K

0 Kelvins is known as Absolute Zero, the coldest possible temperature, where no life can exist. -17.8 Centigrade is equal to 0 degrees F. 32 degrees F is the freezing point of water.
