Rutgers was founded in 1766. This makes it older than the University of Massachusetts, the University of Virginia and Ivy League schools like Cornell and Dartmouth!
5. One of the forgotten battles of the American Revolution occurred in October 1777 at Fort Mercer, also known as the Battle of Red Bank. Why was this battle significant?

Answer: All of these reasons

The largest warship lost by the British during the war occurred here. The HMS Augusta was burned to the waterline just off the fort.

Answer: True

Even though mankind has encroached on it, the New Jersey Pine Barrens cover a huge area consisting of sandy pine forests, dense cedar swamps and bogs. The area was unpalatable for development until the second half of the twentieth century. Today, over one million acres are under state and federal protection.
9. Which singer/songwriter and Jersey native sent us "Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J."?

Answer: Bruce Springsteen

All four are Jersey boys, but the Boss' debut album acknowledged where he got his start, the clubs of the Jersey Shore including the legendary Stone Pony. "Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J." was released in 1973.
10. New Jersey has its own State Creature (anomaly, enigma or monster also work). What is it called?

Answer: The Jersey Devil

The Jersey Devil has been frightening folk since at least the 1700s. Season One of the show "X-Files" had characters Scully and Mulder searching the Pines for him or her, or maybe it. The Jersey Devil is apparently a winged cryptid.
