Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What body of water is to the west of Georgia?

Answer: The Black Sea

The Black Sea borders Georgia and covers an area of 168,495 square miles. The volume of the water is 133,500 cubic miles and the maximum depth is 7,238 feet. The Pontic Mountains are to the south and the Caucasus Mountains are to the east.

The Black Sea has a positive balance of water flowing in and out. It is all part of a two-way hydrological exchange. Water from the Mediterranean flows into the Black Sea. The Black Sea flows into the Aegean Sea. As the Black Sea water is less salty and is cooler, it floats over the saltier Mediterranean water.
