Argentina is a country known for the quantity and quality of the beef it exports. The huge extensions of land where cattle is raised are called "pampas" and the Argentinian cowboy is the "gaucho". The tango became popular at the beginning of the 20th century and reached its peak under the government of Juan Peron, but it is stiil famous all over the world. It is a very sensual and romantic dance. Carlos Gardel was the most famous tango singer and composer.

A famous dish in Argentine restaurants is the "parrilla", which consists of excellent beef cuts served with chimichurri sauce.
2. I arrive in this new country to drink the best coffee in the world. I also want to see the emerald mines, hoping to get a good deal on emeralds. And in the week end, I will go to the Andes, as I was told some of the mountains reach 18,000 ft over sea level. Do you know where I am?

Answer: Colombia

Colombia has the reputation, deservedly, of producing the best coffee in the world. It is also a flower exporting country known for its orchids. It is true that there is not a specific typical dish, but my opinion is that empanadas (turnovers) do not taste like the empanadas of other countries. The typical music which originated in Colombia is the Cumbia, which has indigenous, African and Spanish influences. The guitar, accordion, flute and bongo are the instruments used to create this contagious music.

According to Wikipedia, "Colombia is the country in the planet more characterized by a high biodiversity, with the highest rate of species by area unit worldwide". I have read that 10% of all species live in Colombia.
3. My next stop is the birthplace of the great Simón Bolívar, the Latin American hero who freed six nations. I want to visit Margarita Island, to wash my feet in the Orinoco River, which flows through several countries, but its source is located between this country and Brazil. I want to listen to joropos tonight, the typical music of this place. Where am I?

Answer: Venezuela

Simon Bolivar was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He freed Panama, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and his own country. He is called The Liberator, for his extraordinary achievement of bringing freedom to so many nations. His dream was to have all South American countries joined into one country like the United States.

Margarita Island is a very touristy island located off the northeastern coast of Venezuela. The Orinoco River is over 2400 km long. It sustains a large number of wild animals including the anaconda and the capybara, the largest rodent in the world.
4. I now arrive in a small and beautiful country, very clean and green. People call it "The Switzerland of Central America" because it has a better economy than many other neighbor countries. It no longer has an army and it has political stability. This country is considered the "greenest country in the world". Where am I?

Answer: Costa Rica

Costa Rica is bordered by Panama and Nicaragua. It is probably one of the most politically stable countries in Latin America. It is, according to Wikipedia, the first carbon-neutral country as of 2012. Costa Rica is a country rich in fauna and flora. It has several national parks, like Corcovado Park, where people can see a large variety of wildlife like the four monkey species living in the country, a variety of amphibians, the three-toed sloth, 320 species of birds and many reptiles.
Costa Rica is home to many types of orchids which are exported in large amounts.
5. I was a little worried about visiting this place, mainly because this country does not have diplomatic relations with the United States, but I was born in it. I want to visit the Valley of Viñales, to see the mogotes, defined as "isolated, steep-sided, residual hills" only found in this valley, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I also must visit the area known as Bay of Pigs. Where am I?

Answer: Cuba

Cuba is a country that should be remembered for its natural beauty and not only for its rum, tobacco, sugar production and communist government. When I was living in this country I was told that the hills called mogotes were only found in Cuba, that the smallest hummingbird in the world, the bee hummingbird, is also found only in Cuba. Another rare animal, the polymita, a very colorful tree living snail, the Cuban crocodile, a fish called manjuari, possibly the oldest living fish and the miniature bat are in the list of animals only found in this country.

Cuba is also known for its contagious music. The danzón was the ballroom dance of the 1930's and 40s. The mambo, created by Dámaso Pérez Prado, is danced everywhere in the world.
6. My next stop is in a city built on a dried lake with an altitude of 7,800 feet above sea level. Many years ago, in the early 16th century when the Spaniards arrived in America, this same place was called Tenochtitlan and it was a flourishing capital with multiple canals. The lake was called Texcoco by the residents. Where am I?

Answer: Mexico

Mexico is a country with a rich folklore. When the Spaniards arrived, they encountered strong indigenous civilizations that did not disappear under the Spanish influence like the Tainos and Siboneyes in the Antilles. The Olmecs, the Aztecs and other inhabitants of the central area were, in many ways, as sophisticated as the Europeans and their traditions have left an imprint in today's folklore. Mexico also has many historic sites dating from the period in the country's history when Emperor Maximilian ruled the country, like the beautiful Castle of Chapultepec. Anyone who likes history would enjoy visiting the vestiges of that wonderful civilization, the Mayans, who populated the Yucatan peninsula. Ruins like Tollum and Chichen Itza are marvels of the Mayan culture.
7. My next stop is an island where unfortunately, there is much poverty, but tourists do not see it as they concentrate in the areas with the beautiful beaches like Punta Cana. This country occupies two-thirds of Hispaniola, an island discovered by Columbus where he established the first Spanish capital in the New World. Tonight, I will dance a merengue in my hotel club. Where am I?

Answer: Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is a poor country but rich in natural beauty. It is probably the most visited island in the Caribbean, offering great beaches, excellent weather and friendly locals. The Dominican Republic is the country where Lake Enriquito, a salt lake, is located. Another interesting fact about this country is that they mine larimar, a beautiful opaque blue stone that has spots of a different blue.

The Dominican Republic is a country that occupies the eastern two thirds of Hispaniola, an island discovered by Columbus in 1492, where he founded the first Spanish capital in America. It is probably the place most visited by tourists in the Caribbean, because of its great climate, beautiful beaches and friendly people. But it is also a very poor country, where crime is punished lightly, money is laundered and drugs are stored before being sent to the U.S. and Europe.
8. I am really getting old. I forgot to visit a country in South America where I know Spanish is the official language but many people speak Quechua. Upon my arrival I go to visit Lake Titicaca, located between this country and Bolivia. Where am I?

Answer: Peru

Peru is a country bordered by Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia and Chile. It was liberated by Simón Bolívar and José de San Martín. Peru has the Pacific on its west and the Andes run parallel to the coast. There is also a rainforest (or selva) which the Amazon floods during the rainy season.
Machu Picchu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located 7,970 feet above the sea. It was built by the Incas around 1450 and abandoned when the Spaniards conquered the Inca Empire.
9. On my way to Spain, I stop in this little country because I always wanted to visit all the miniature countries in Europe and this country is one of them. Although the official language is Catalán, everybody speaks Spanish. It was not easy to travel to this place. There are no airports nor train stations. You can enter the country only by road, which you have to take in France or Spain. Where am I?

Answer: Andorra

Andorra is one of the smallest countries in Europe. It is located in the Pyrenees. Besides Andorra, the other miniature countries are Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, San Marino, Monaco and The Vatican. This country's main source of income comes from tourism, especially from those tourist who want to ski and to hike.
Andorra had a strange type of government. It was governed by the President of France and the Bishop of Urgel in Spain, but it now has a parliamentary government.

Where am I?
