6. Which of the following countries does NOT feature in the top ten Asian countries by land area?

Answer: Thailand

Asia is the largest continent on Earth by area. China consists of over 9.5 million square km and is easily the largest Asian country, followed by the Asian portion of Russia (about 3.9 million). India is the third largest country in Asia by size (about 3.2 million square km); Indonesia sixth (1.9 million); and Pakistan ninth (0.8 million).

While still relatively large in global terms, Thailand comes in 14th in Asia at just over 500,000 square km.

8. Asia has both the smallest and largest deserts in the world by area (excluding Antarctica).

Answer: False

While Asia has some large deserts including the Arabian (West Asia) and Gobi (East Asia), these are significantly smaller than Africa's Sahara Desert. Asia does have two of the world's smallest sub-tropical deserts, the Dasht-e Kavir and Dasht-e Lut, both in Iran.
9. Which of these countries is the odd one out because it is NOT one of the five smallest Asian countries by area?

Answer: Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka, at about 65,000 square km, is small in Asian terms. However, there are at least twelve Asian countries that are substantially smaller, including Brunei (5,700 square km), Singapore (690 square km) and Bahrain (660). The Maldives comes in as smallest, at just 300 square km.
10. Asia is an odd continent out because at the turn of the 21st century it was the only continent without any active volcanoes.

Answer: False

There are many volcanoes in Asia that are considered to be 'active', which means they are in the process of erupting (often slowly) or likely to erupt. Some famous examples, which bring millions of tourists to watch every year, include Mount Fuji (Japan) and Mount Bromo (Indonesia).
