Bamako is the capital and largest city of Mali, and also one of the largest cities on the African continent. It is located on the banks of the Niger River, near the rapids that divide the upper and the middle Niger Valleys. Its economy is based on fabrics, processed meat, metal goods and mining of gold and other mineral resources.

There are indications that the site in which Bamako is located has been inhabited since the Paleolithic era. The name Bamako means "crocodile tail" in the Bambara language, which is widely used in Mali, although the official language is French.

Astana is a word that means in the Kazakh language "capital of the country". The capital of Kazakhstan was Almaty, which the Russians renamed Tslinograd and later Akmola. In 1997, the president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, renamed the capital as Astana and ordered the transfer of the capital to a new location in the north of the country, on the banks of the Ishim River, a place that until then was completely uninhabited. The revenue from oil and gas production was used to build this new city, whose master plan was outlined by the Japanese architect Kisho Kurukawa.

On March 23, 2019, with the approval of the Kazakhstan parliament, the city of Astana was renamed Nur-Sultan, after former President Nursultan Nazabayev, who ruled the country for 30 years.

Bedřich Smetana (1824-1884) was a Czech composer well known for his numerous works. At about the age of 50, Smetana's health and hearing began to fail, but he continued to compose. Between 1874 and 1879, Smetana composed a cycle of six symphonic poems, called "Má vlast" ("My Fatherland"). The second and best known piece of the cycle is "Vltava", also known as "The Moldau". It is one of the best known pieces by Smetana, evokes the flow of the Vltava River and made the Vltava River known worldwide.

In 1611, Potosi had already become the largest producer of silver - which was shipped to Spain - in the world and one of the largest cities on the American continent. As the production of silver waned its population also decreased. Potosi is still a mining center of tin, silver, and smaller quantities of lead, antimony and copper. Potosi is a colonial city with a lot of history and it is worth visiting.

Mādabā is a town located 32 km from Amman, in west-central Jordan, along the King's Highway, an ancient trade route. In the vicinity of Mādabā are Mount Nebo and the Dead Sea.

The city is famous for its historic "Mādabā mosaic map", which is considered to be the oldest existing map of Palestine and adjacent territories. The mosaic map was discovered in 1884, and can be seen on the floor of many ruined ancient churches in Mādabā. The map of the Holy Land can be seen on the floor of the orthodox church of São Jorge. The mosaics date from the 6th century AD and the information is written in Greek.
