Answer: Portugal and Spain

Although all of the countries are near one another, it is actually Portugal and Spain that share the peninsula. A peninsula is a land mass that is almost completely surrounded by water. For this reason, many peninsulas are mistaken as islands.

Andorra and Gibraltar are also on the peninsula.

Answer: Alaska and Hawaii

Not only are they the two westernmost states, they are also the last states admitted to the union. On January 3, 1959 President Eisenhower ushered Alaska in as the 49th in the union. Then, on August 21, 1959 the "Aloha State" joined.

Answer: Mediterranean Sea and Red Sea

The Mediterranean Sea is a part of the Atlantic Ocean almost completely enclosed by land. The sea's name comes from the Latin terms medius meaning middle and terra meaning land/earth.
4. The highest point on the Brenner Pass marks the border between which two countries?

Answer: Austria and Italy

China does border Korea to the north. However, it is North & South Korea which are divided by the 38th parallel. There are other notable divisions between these two countries. North Korea is a Communist while South is a Republic. Census information about the countries indicates that North Korea has only one university while South has over 30.

Despite this fact, the adult literacy rate in North Korea is 99% whereas it is 96% in South Korea.
9. Where did Route 66 stop and start?

Answer: California and Illinois

There is an almost cult following that surrounds this legendary stretch of highway despite the fact that old Route 66 is no longer marked on maps. In fact, Disney Pixar's hit film "Cars" utilizes this following. Most of the film's characters and places and even the plot were based on actual persons and places along Route 66.
10. Name the bodies of water linked by the Panama Canal.

Answer: Atlantic Ocean and Pacific Ocean

The construction of the canal was one of the largest, most extensive and difficult engineering projects ever undertaken. The concept for the canal dates as far back as the 1500s. The French began the canal in the late 1800s but were unable to complete it.

The United States finally completed it in 1914. This was not without cost. It is believed that over 27,000 workers died during the 35 years of construction.
