The name "Green Lake" derives from its emerald green water that comes from the snow-melt from the Hochschwab Mountains. In the winter, the lake is very shallow (one-two feet) and the surrounding area is used as a park. In the spring after the snow melts, the lake is 10-15 feet deep and the water color is at its peak.

The water starts to recede in July. In the spring, divers can observe underwater meadows, a bridge, a bench, trails, and trees that are visible on land in the winter. [To finish each hole, golfers must putt out on the green.]
