Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A certain Pennsylvania town is haunted with rumors of the "Cult House". The trees around the house grow away from the house, and theories about the cause include Satanists, the Ku Klux Klan, and an inbred family known as the DuPonts. What town is this?

Answer: Chadds Ford

The Cult House in Chadds Ford is becoming harder and harder to visit. It's located on Devil's Road, but the street signs have been removed so it's hard to find. Rumor has it, if you go on the road, you will get chased off by people in SUVs.
2. In Allegheny County, along the Allegheny River, you can find an ancient petroglyph that is known as the River God.

Answer: False

While there are petroglyphs on the Allegheny River, they are in Venango County. It is also known as the Indian God, not the River God. If you would like to see this ancient mystery, go soon. As erosion and graffiti take their tolls, it's becoming harder to see the original petroglyph.
3. On what mountain, also called Ghost Mountain, could you find a clan of cannibalistic albinos living in a glass house?

Answer: Haycock

They're said to do any number of horrible things. They kidnap children, throw rocks at cars, and it's even said that the police are scared of them! A variation of the story says that they live in a concrete house.
4. What York County township had a mud-like substance fall from the sky onto a house owned by Rose Snell?

Answer: Paradise

In 1998, a strange mud-like substance covered the property of Mrs. Snell, and only Mrs. Snell! No other houses were affected! To this day, nobody can explain this mysterious happening!
5. Pennsylvania has the greatest number of collected Bigfoot sightings.

Answer: True

Believe it or not, Pennsylvania has the greatest number of Bigfoot sightings. While most people would think that this honor would belong to California, Oregon, or another western state, it does not. The main hotspot for the sightings is Western Pennsylvania, although they have been sighted all over the state.
6. In what year was there a killing spree on the Pennsylvania Turnpike that is attributed to John Wable?

Answer: 1953

Wable was arrested in New Mexico. He pleaded his innocence right up to his execution in 1955.
7. On the cover of the book "Weird Pennsylvania", there's a picture of a tree stump carved into a monkey-devil creature. Where could you find the original?

Answer: Springfield

Located near a mall in Delaware County, this strange carving has found its way onto a cover of the book. A nearby tree has a smiling half-moon on it.
8. There is a hidden street beneath which Pennsylvania town?

Answer: Norristown

Apparently, there was a street that became flooded. To stop the problem from occurring again, developers built the new street on top of the other. You can get there, but it's not recommended.
9. The town of Celesta, now known as Celestia, was created by Peter Armstrong in 1850. He thought it would save them from the end of the world. He did not want to pay taxes on the land, and changed the name on the deed to "God the father and Jesus the Son". Is this last sentence true or false?

Answer: False

He actually changed it to "Creator and God of heaven and earth, and to His heirs in Jesus Messiah, for their proper use and behoof forever." Eventually, tax collectors decided that God still has to pay taxes, and seized the land.
10. In what Pennsylvania city can the tallest smokestack in the country be found?

Answer: Homer City

It's 1,216 feet tall, and it is the second highest in the world. The reason for the height is that it burns coal. Regulations require that coal breaks up in the atmosphere before falling back to earth.
