On June 28, 1839 slaves on board the Amistad, a ship which was transporting them from Havana (Cuba) to Puerto Principe (also in Cuba), where they were supposed to work on a sugar plantation. The slaves, led by Sengbe Pieh (later also known as Joseph Cinque), managed to free themselves and take over the ship.

They demanded to be returned to Africa, but the ship's navigator sailed towards the coast of the US. The ship was interecepted by the US Revenue Cutter Service and the slaves were claimed as property by various parties.

They were set free by the US Supreme Court on 9 March 1841.
8. Josef Stalin's body was placed in the mausoleum in Red Square on 9th March of which year?

He was the dicatator of the Soviet Union from the late 1920s till his death. He is remembered in particular for his purges in the 1930s. He was ultimately succeeded (and denounced) by Nikita Khrushchev.

Stalin's body was removed from the mausoleum and cremated in 1961.
