Some felt that living in suburbia fulfilled the American dream because they owned their own homes, the people were able to send their children to good schools, and they lived in safe communities.
5. In the aftermath of WWII, what made home ownership more affordable in the USA?

Answer: the GI Bill offered low interest loans

The GI Bill also enabled veterans to go to college.
6. What event after WWII increased the population drastically?

7. After WWII and the men came home, women were seen as what?

Answer: mothers and homemakers

When the men came home, they got their jobs back that the women had taken over when they were fighting. This put the women back in the homes taking care of their families.
8. After WWII, what was so well "hidden" that many middle class Americans believed that it had disappeared?

Answer: poverty

Poverty was so well hidden that the poor were often referred to as the "invisible poor."
9. Who wrote the book "The Common Sense Book of Baby and Child Care"?

Answer: Dr. Benjamin Spock

This book was released in 1946. It was written for parents during the baby boom because many people weren't sure how to take care of babies and young children.
10. After WWII, how did Communism affect the world?

Answer: in many countries there was an obsession with 'Reds under beds'

Communism had everyone in America on edge and, to a lesser extent, in western and southern Europe and some other parts of the world. In America people in government and the media were even checked to find out if they might be Communists.
