Answer: William Tecumseh Sherman

Sherman, a colonel at the time, was the first superintendent of the Academy that later became L.S.U. He was recommended for the job by P.G.T. Beauregard, and Braxton Bragg, who had been his West Point classmates.

Answer: Camp Sumter

Camp Sumter was the offical name of Andersonville prison. By the time they closed it, Andersonville was the fifth largest city in the Confederacy. 13,171 prisoners died at Camp Sumter.

"Yes," he said, "and I fear seriously." He later died of the wound that could have been treated by the use of a tourniquet in his pocket.
