Gertrude Janeway lived her entire life in Blaine, Tennessee. John Janeway joined the 14th Illinois Cavalry, survived the war, and lived in various places during his life. When he came to Blaine and wanted to marry Gertrude she was only 16. Her mother said she would have to wait till she was 18 years old to marry. John died in 1937 at the age of 91. Gertrude died at 93, she received a pension of 70 dollars a month till her death.

Answer: Alabama

Alberta Martin, born December 4th, 1906, of Elba, Alabama married William Jasper Martin, an army private, on December 10th, 1927.

Answer: Percy Wynham

General Mosby and his 29 men were actually after Colonel Percy Wynham, a Union cavalry officer, that had called Mosby "a common horse thief ", and Mosby felt he must defend his honor. General Robert E Lee mentioned General Mosby in his orders and reports more often than any other Confederate officer and once said " he wished he had a 100 like him".

He enlisted as a private and fought for the Confederate Army at 1st Bull Run and served under William "Grumble" Jones. He advanced in rank to Lieutenant and Adjutant before volunteering as a scout to General Jeb Stuart.

The horse, 'Daniel Webster' was a dark bay that stood 17 hands high. He was pure bred and McClellan's staff complained of not being able to keep up with Dan due to his penchant for speed when being ridden. After the war, Dan became the family horse in Orange, New Jersey. Dan died there at the age of 23.

Answer: Bowie knives

Terry's Texas Rangers, not associated with the Texas Rangers,were one of the best cavalry units in the Civil War. Only twice during the Civil War did a cavalry unit win a battle against an infantry unit by itself. Terry's Rangers did it both times.

Answer: A defensive obstacle

An abatis was a series of cut logs, sharpened on one end, that were placed facing the enemy's front.
10. When was the Union force known as the 'Army of Virginia' formed?

Answer: 1862

It was formed under the command of Major General John Pope in 1862. It fought the Confederates at Cedar Mountain and in the second battle of Manassas while the 'Army of the Poromac' was returning from its failed Peninsular campaign.
