One of the most well-known regiments of the war, they held the very left of the Union lines, and to do this, after a long, 2-hour exchange of bullets, Colonel Chamberlain, the commander, ordered a bayonet charge that devastated and surprised the Confederates, ending the second day of battle at Gettysburg. I highly recommend the movie "Gettysburg".
10. How many times was General Chamberlain wounded in the Civil War?

Answer: 6

None of his wounds was fatal. A bullet went clean through his hip, but his brother Tom found good medical help and he survived. After a few months, he was back charging the Confederate lines until the end of the war. He was wounded at Gettysburg minorly and all his other wounds were pretty minor but at Five Forks he was shot through the hips and that was major. But, of course, he survived.
