1. Norway and Denmark, 1931.

Answer: East Greenland

Norwegian whalers and sealers occupied part of East Greenland in 1931 and were supported by the Norwegian government. However, Denmark was granted the area in 1933.
2. Germany and USSR, 1945.

Answer: East Prussia

The northern part of East Prussia, with its capital, Koenigsberg, was seized by USSR after World War II. The city was renamed Kaliningrad.
3. Finland and USSR, 1940-1944.

Answer: Vyborg

Finland lost this town to the USSR during World War II. Before the war this was the second biggest city in Finland. The city is called Viipuri in Finnish, Viborg in Swedish.
4. Germany and Poland, 1945.

Answer: Wroclaw

This city, with the German name Breslau, was lost to Poland after the end of World War II.
5. Poland and Czechoslovakia, 1938.

Answer: Teschen

The small, former Austrian duchy of Teschin, in Czech called Cesky Tesin, in Polish Cieszyn, was divided between Czechoslovakia and Poland in 1920. In 1938 Poland occupied the Czech part, but it was returned to Czechoslovakia after World War II.
6. Romania and USSR, 1940-45.

Answer: Bessarabia

Bessarabia, along with Bukovina was seized by USSR from Romania in 1940. Retaken by Germany and Romania in 1941, but 1944 again part of USSR.
7. Romania and Bulgaria, 1940.

Answer: Dobrudja

This area was divided between Romania and Bulgaria in 1940.
8. Romania and Hungary, 1940-45.

Answer: Transylvania

Hungary had lost this territory to Romania after World War I. In 1940 Hungary regained nothern Transylvania, only to lose it again in 1944.
9. Italy and Yugoslavia, 1947.

Answer: Rijeka

This town was returned from Italy to Yugoslavia in 1947. It is now in Croatia.
10. Italy and Austria, 1919.

Answer: South Tirol

This area is called Bozen in German and Alto Adige in Italian. It was granted Italy from Austria in 1919.
11. Italy and Greece, 1947.

Answer: Dodecanese Islands

These islands became Italian 1923, but were restored to Greece in 1947.
12. France and Germany, 1936.

Answer: Rhineland

The demilitarized Rhineland (de facto controlled by France) was reoccupied by Germany in 1936.
Saarland was formally administred by the League of Nations 1919-1935, but France controlled the territory. It was seized to Germany after plebiscite in 1935.
Alsace and Lorraine was surrendered to France from Germany after WWI.
13. Germany and Belgium, 1919.

Answer: Eupen-Malmedy

These two minor cities and their surroundings were granted Belgium from Germany in 1919.
14. Poland and Lithuania, 1939.

Answer: Vilnius

Vilnius, or in Polish Wilno, became part of Poland 1923, but was restored to Lithuania 1939.

Answer: Memel

Present name: Klaipeda.This city was seized by Lithuania 1923, made autonomous territory 1924, seized by Germany 1939. After World War II part of Lithuanian SSSR, now part of independent Lithuania.
16. Greece, Yugoslavia and Bulgaria, 1919.

Answer: Macedonia

Bulgarian, Serb and Greek claims led to Balkan wars 1912-13. As a result of Bulgarian participation in World War I on side of the central powers, Macedonia was partitioned between Greece and Yugoslavia, to exclusion of Bulgaria.
17. Hungary and Austria, 1921.

Answer: Sopron

Hungary gained this city from Austria after a plebiscite in 1921.
18. Hungary and Czechoslovakia, 1945.

Answer: Slovakia

Hungary lost parts of south Slovakia to Czechoslovakia after World War II.
19. Hungary and Yugoslavia, 1918-1919.

Answer: Slavonia

Hungary lost Slavonia to Yugoslavia after World War II. Slavonia is now a part of Croatia.
20. Czechoslovakia and USSR, 1945.

Answer: Carpatho-Ukraine

This area was incorporated into USSR along with, Bessarabia, NE Prussia and Eastern Poland after World War II.
21. Turkey and Greece, 1923.

Answer: Eastern Thrace

Turkey gained this area back from Greece in 1923.
22. Turkey and Great Britain, 1914.

Answer: Cyprus

Great Britain annexed Cyprus after a war with Turkey in 1914 and made the island a crown colony 1925.

Answer: Gibraltar

Gibraltar was made a British colony in 1830. Spain claims the area.

Answer: Northern Schleswig

Denmark gained this area from Germany after plebiscite 1920.

Finland were awarded the Aland Islands after a dispute with Sweden in 1922.
