Answer: Lydia

The first metal coins were made in Lydia, part of present day Turkey, in about 600 B.C. The Greeks soon copied the Lydians and made coins of their own.

Answer: Joan of Arc

An English judge reviewed Joan of Arc's case in 1456, and found her not guilty by reason of insanity. Unfortunately, she had been burned at the stake in 1431.
3. What was a Incan Huaca?

Answer: a holy object

A huaca was an Incan holy object or place, or the spirit that embodies that place. Inca people regularly made offerings to huacas,
to bring good luck. Rich nobles left food and clothing. Poor people left blades of grass, drops of water, or just an eyelash.
4. Which is the world's oldest royal family?

Answer: The Japanese royal family

The Japanese royal family has produced a long line of 125 reigning emperors over a period of thousands of years.
5. How long did Roman soldiers usually serve in the army?

Answer: 25 years

After the 25 years, soldiers retired and were given a lump sum of money, like a pension, and a certificate recording their service.

Answer: AD 868

The world's oldest surviving text, the "Diamond Sutra", was printed on seven strips of yellow stained paper, made from carved wooden blocks, and stuck together to form a scroll over five meters long in china in AD 868.
7. Who discovered New Zealand?

Answer: The Maoris

The Maoris began a mass migration to the island of New Zealand from other Pacific islands in AD 1150, But remains dating back to AD 800 have been found.
8. What explorer started (but did not himself complete) the first around-the-world expedition by ship?

Answer: Ferdinand Magellan

The first round the world trip was made by sailors aboard the ship "Victoria," part of Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan's fleet. In 1519 he sailed eastward from Europe but was killed during a fight in the Philippines. Most of his crew died too, from hunger or disease.

A few survivors, led by sea captain Sebastian Elcano, managed to complete Magellan's planned voyage, and returned home to Europe, weak but triumphant, in 1522.
9. Who were the first Europeans to settle in the land now known as the United States?

Answer: Spanish colonists

Spanish colonists settled in present-day Florida and California in 1540. English settlement began began in Chesapeake Bay in 1607, and Massachusetts in 1620.
10. Who or what were "the three sisters" in North America?

Answer: Corn, squash, and beans

Beans, corn, and squash were three essential crops that Native American Farmers could grow anywhere. The gods of these crops were almost always considered to be female, thus "The Three Sisters."
