Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to Shakespeare, which of the following was NOT a conspirator against Julius Caesar?

Answer: Crassus

Crassus and Pompey were, along with Caesar, members of the First Triumvirate. Caesar outlived Crassus.
2. Dr. Samuel Mudd was suspected by many as being a conspirator in the assassination of Lincoln. What happened to Mudd?

Answer: Imprisoned and pardoned

It's unclear whether he got a raw deal or not ... but he did fix Booth's broken leg. After trial he was imprisoned. He was pardoned by President Johnson after peforming heroically in a yellow fever outbreak.
3. Who was the key player in the unsuccessful 'bomb plot' to kill Hitler?

Answer: Von Stauffenberg

Rommel may have been sympathetic, but he wasn't the 'trigger man' here. Richthofen was better known as the 'Red Baron'.
4. Some people believe that there was a conspiracy to protect the identity of 'Jack the Ripper'. The best evidence for this is:

Answer: Destruction of clues at a crime scene

A policeman found a message written on an outside wall at one of the crime scenes. He erased it. Why?
5. During the heyday of anti-communism there were many attempts to kill Castro. One was the so-called 'Bay of Pigs'. When did it occur?

Answer: Early 60's

Some believe that this fiasco set the wheels in motion for the assassination of JFK.
6. The Watergate break-in - and the conspiracy to conceal the government involvement - was part of the Nixon re-election effort. Who was in charge of the aptly named CREEP (Committee to Re-Elect the President)?

Answer: John Mitchell

It was Attorney General Mitchell, not the advisors (Ehrlichman and Haldeman) or V.P. Agnew.
7. The 'Gunpowder Plot' was an unsuccessful conspiracy against the government. Where did it occur?

Answer: Great Britain

In the early 1600s Guy Fawkes and some other conspirators stashed some gunpowder in the cellars of the Parliament building - with definite plans for its use. They were caught before they could get the plan off the ground.
8. Who was the chief conspirator in the assassination of Trotsky?

Answer: Stalin

Power struggle. Stalin won.
9. Which of the following was NOT a character whose name is encountered in the investigation of the JFK assassination?

Answer: Rafer Johnson

Ferrie, a strange character, was clearly involved. Shaw was unsuccessfully prosecuted by Jim Garrison for the crime. Bannister had an office in the same building (but with a different address) where Oswald worked. Johnson was a celebrity who was present when RFK was assassinated.
10. Many people believe that Jack Ruby's assassination of Lee Harvey Oswald was a conspiracy, rather than a one-man show (just as many people believe the same thing about Oswald's shooting of Kennedy.) Which of these does NOT support the conspiracy theory?

Answer: Ruby enjoyed financial 'improvements' just prior to the shooting

Ruby did not come into big $ before the shooting of Oswald. Ruby apparently wanted to spill the beans to Warren - but not in Dallas. Warren didn't do anything about Ruby's request to be taken somewhere else. Kilgallen was excited about her interview with Ruby - but died shortly afterwards under mysterious circumstances. Ruby was apparently quite familiar with organized crime.
