Answer: Robert Cavelier de La Salle

On March 19th, in 1687, Robert Cavelier de La Salle was murdered by his men while trying to find the mouth of the Mississippi for the second time. He had claimed the mouth of the Mississippi River for France in 1682 but when they went back to colonize the area, his ship miscalculated its coordinates and was shipwrecked in Texas.

Although, most of the people who were shipwrecked with him returned to France, Robert Cavelier de La Salle stayed behind with some of his men in hopes of finding the river again.

It is during this time that his men mutinied and murdered him.
2. On March 19, 1863, the most powerful Confederate cruiser of its time sank on its first voyage. What was the name of this ship?

Answer: SS Georgiana

While trying to get past a Federal Blockading Squadron on her way to Charleston, the SS Georgiana was hit by a single shot. The shot destroyed her rudder and propeller so her captain ran her aground. Once she was on shore, the Yankees set her on fire. She blew up three days later.

The ship was discovered exactly 102 years later by a teenage diver.

The idea of time zones was thought up by Sir Sandford Fleming. He though that the world should be divided into 24 time zones, each spaced fifteen degrees apart because the Earth completes a rotation every 24 hours and there are 360 degrees of longitude, so each hour the Earth rotates 1/24th of a circle or 15 degrees.

The United States has nine different time zones making it the country with the second highest number of time zones after Russia.

Michael Jordan returned to play for the Chicago Bulls on March 19, 1995. He had been retired for 17 months. During the game against the Indiana Pacers, he scored 19 points to help the Bulls win the game 103-96.
