On this day the final day of the 51 day siege ended with the Branch Davidian building outside of Waco, Texas going up in flames. Approximately 81 people including men, women and children died as a result.

From the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository Lee Harvey Oswald shot President Kennedy twice killing him instantly. The President was later declared dead at Parkland Hospital.

Around 7:17 in the morning the earthquake struck Mexico City destroying many buildings including a large hospital.

The earthquake struck during Game 3 of the World Series between San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics. It also destroyed many sections of the double decker freeway killing many people in the process.

Just as principal photography of "Jurassic Park" finished the hurricane struck Hawaii. The large gate welcoming guests into the park was destroyed while the cast and crew were holed up in a hotel room. The crew who helped build the sets stayed behind to help with repairs and clearing debris.
