Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the title and name of Hitler's successor ?

Answer: President Karl Dönitz

Hitler was the only ruler of Germany that called himself "Führer". Paul von Hindenburg was the president who appointed Hitler Chancellor on 30 January 1933. After WWI, Germany no longer had an emperor.
2. What was Hitler's rank in the German army in WWI?

Answer: Corporal

He was promoted early in World War I - on 3 November 1914. There have been many attempts to explain why he was never promoted beyond the rank of corporal. The claim that he refused promotion because it would have taken him to staff HQ and away from front is not supported by any reliable source.
3. Apart from being a politician, what were Adolf Hitler's other occupations?

Answer: Soldier, writer, artist

He was a corporal in WWI. He wrote "Mein Kampf" while being in prison after his failed coup d'état. He also wrote a second book, which was not published in his lifetime.
4. Besides being an anti-semite, he was also ________ .

Answer: anti-communist

In Hitler's mind communism was a specifically Jewish ideology, designed to further conspiratorial Jewish attempts to achieve 'world domination'. It is clear from 'Mein Kampf' that he subscribed to the conspiracy theory found in 'Protocolls of the Elders of Zion'.
5. What was the first territory or country annexed by Nazi Germany?

Answer: Austria

Austria was annexed on 12 March 1938. The Saarland voted in a plebiscite (referendum) in 1935 to rejoin Germany. (This referendum had been provided for in the Treaty of Versailles signed in June 1919). In 1936 Hitler remilitarized the Rhineland. Poland was the first country to resist annexation by armed force.
6. How and where did Hitler die?

Answer: He bit on a capsule filled with cyanide and shot himself at the same time in his bunker under the Reichs Chancellery

Many say he only shot himself, but he did both things because he wanted to be sure he would be dead.
7. What was the *official* abbreviation of Hitler's political party?

Answer: NSDAP

NSDAP stands for Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (National Socialist German Workers' Party).
Nazi is a (hostile) nickname for members and supporters of the NSDAP.
DNVP stands for Deutschnationale Volkpartei. It was a hardline conservative party in the Weimar period and from 1931 onwards it was the NSDAP's main partner.
SS stands for Schutzstaffel and was under the command of Himmler.
8. What was something that Hitler never wanted the people of Germany to see or know about him?

Answer: That he had to wear glasses to be able to read

He thought that wearing glasses would make him a not so impressive sight for the people.

He publicly accused the Jews of being the source of all the problems in Germany, in Europe and even the world.
9. What was the name of Hitler's father?

Answer: Alois Hitler

Adolf Hitler was his own name from birth. Contrary to Allied jokes in World War II, his name was never Schicklgruber. His father had changed the name in 1876, about 13 years before Adolf Hitler's birth.

Franz Hitler and Johann Schicklgruber are invented names.
10. How did Hitler kill his dog?

Answer: Made her swallow pills

Berchtesgaden was his home, but he stayed in Berlin commanding the army until the end.
