Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which one of the following is the easiest balloon animal to make?

Answer: The dog

The dog is one of the oldest and easiest designs. It is a great first balloon animal when starting out.
2. What twist is the dog made up of?

Answer: Bubbles

The dog is the simplest to make because it is made of bubbles only, though some bubbles have been joined at the bases by twisting to make the ears, and front and hind legs.
3. Why would balloon artists mostly use ear twists instead of bubbles to make ears or eyes?

Answer: It gives a more finished look

Though it is harder for the balloon to come undone when ear twisted, the common use of ear twists is to give a more finished look to the balloon animals. For instance, the horse I make uses ear twists for the ears, and the frog uses ear twists for the eyes.
4. To decrease the "pop factor" on balloons, you must squeeze the air from the middle of the balloon, all the way to the end. What is this called?

Answer: Softening

Softening decreases risk of popping when using balloons that require a lot of twisting.
5. How many balloons does it take to make a snail?

Answer: 1

The snail requires one balloon. You make a one inch bubble, a six inch loop twist, then roll the rest of the balloon up and fit it into the loop twist. Overall, a very simple design.
6. What is the number used to indicate the balloons used for balloon animals?

Answer: 260

The proper name for the balloons is 260's. They are also occasionally called "Twist and Shape Balloons".
7. The balloons may also be filled with helium.

Answer: False

The 260's are not helium quality balloons, and cannot handle being filled with helium. If you want to have the balloon animals float, buy some helium quality balloons, inflate them with helium, and attach the animals to the balloons.
8. How many balloons does it take to make an octopus?

Answer: 4

It takes 4 balloons to make an octopus. The balloons are just folded in half.
9. What does the tulip twist do?

Answer: It makes the nozzle disappear.

By poking the nozzle inside the balloon and making a bubble, the nozzle is held inside the balloon.
10. Balloons should be only inflated by mouth.

Answer: False

That one was easy. Balloon animals should only be inflated by pump for safety reasons (if it pops, it is really easy to inhale).
