Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which is the only song I have listed from the 1994 concept cast CD "Jekyll & Hyde: The Gothic Music Thriller that was included in the Broadway production of "Jekyll & Hyde"?

Answer: Murder, Murder

Unfortunately when "Jekyll & Hyde" finally arrived on Broadway they left out three of the best songs in the musical. If you listen to "Bring on the Men" and "Good N' Evil" back to back you can see the obvious musical resemblance. I was so disappointed they left out my favorite songs that I have yet to see the show on Broadway. I have though, seen the David Hasselhoff version on DVD - if you consider that production a show!;)
2. What was the previous name of the song "Now That I've Seen Her" prior to the Broadway run of "Miss Saigon"?

Answer: Her or Me

The song title and lyrics were changed for the Broadway production after finishing its run on the London stage. The melody however remains the same. Check out "The Making of Miss Saigon" on VHS to see some footage. It's quite interesting. I'm not quite sure why this was done. If anyone knows feel free to E-mail me.
3. What song from Broadway's "Aida" was performed by Tina Turner on "Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida's" pop album?

Answer: Easy As Life

Tina Turner does an OK job. Nothing compared to Heather Headley. If you don't have the pop version yet, don't waste your money. The songs are performed much better on the Original Broadway Cast Album. However if you are interested, here are some of the singers on the pop album: Sting, LeAnn Rimes, Boyz II Men, Shania Twain, Lenny Kravitz, and Kelly Price.
4. Which song from Broadway's "The Lion King" was not a part of the original animated film by the same name?

Answer: Endless Night

The Broadway production has several new songs added to it. These new songs are some of the best in the show. Credit should be given to Julie Taymor (director/lyricist) as well as Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin and Hans Zimmer. I especially love the newly added song "Shadowland."
5. Which of the following is not a song from Broadway's "Les Miserables"?

Answer: The Dawn

I suppose you have to be a true 'Les Mis' fan to know this question since the show has over forty songs. This Operetta was written by Alain Boublil, Claude-Michel Schonberg and Herbert Kretzmer; the same team who created Miss Saigon. Said by some to be one of the greatest modern musicals, it will be interesting to see if its run will surpass "Cats" and "A Chorus Line".
6. Which song from Broadway's "The Phantom of the Opera" has a section that is usually not sung live by the performer on stage?

Answer: The Phantom of the Opera

The use of pre-recorded background vocals or "click tracks" is not a very common thing on Broadway. Usually they are used during very strenuous dance numbers to help out the dancers with their vocals. Sarah Brightman originated the role of Christine on Broadway and I'm not sure if backing tracks were used for her.

She does have quite a range. I know that there are performers now who play that role who use the help of the background track. The notes sung at the end of "Phantom of the Opera" sustain a high C ending with a high E. Quite a feat for a singer to do each week.
7. Which character did not sing in the song "Be Our Guest" from Disney's "Beauty and the Beast"?

Answer: Belle

The song is sung to Belle. Obviously she's not in it. Hope you caught that.
8. Which song is not featured in "Chicago" on Broadway but was added to the 2003 movie version?

Answer: I Move On

This song by Kander and Ebb, the original songwriters of "Chicago", was specifically written for Catherine and Renee. The stage version of "Chicago" is great and it is very rare that a musical actually translates so well into a movie. I recommend seeing both.
9. Which song from the Broadway production of "Cabaret" features someone in a gorilla costume as a part of the number?

Answer: If You Could See Her

Good song. Great show. Let's start a petition to get Liza to do the Broadway production!
10. Which song opens Act II in the Broadway production of "Rent"?

Answer: Seasons of Love

Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes. How do YOU measure a year?
Book, music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson! His unexpected death on the very day his show opened is a sobering reminder to make the most of the time we have. Listen to his music, reach out to your community, and celebrate all the love in your life.
No day but today.
