Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Love, love changes everything..." In which Andrew Lloyd Webber musical is this line sung?

Answer: Aspects of Love

"Aspects of Love" (in my humble opinion) is Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's best musical. It opened on Broadway at the Broadhurst Theater on April 8, 1990 starring Michael Ball as Alex. The musical is based on a book by David Garnett of the same name.
2. In Stephen Sondheim's "Assassins", what two characters sing "Unworthy of Your Love"?

Answer: John Hinckley and Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme

"Assassins" is the story of nine people who killed, or tried to kill, presidents of the United States. A 2004 revival of "Assassins" won five Tonys, including Best Musical Revival. The revival starred Marc Kudisch, Michael Cerveris, and Neil Patrick Harris, and was directed by Joe Mantello.
3. Who sang "On My Own", the ultimate unrequited love song of all time, at the 10th anniversary concert of "Les Miserables"?

Answer: Lea Salonga

"Les Miserables" is an epic musical about the 1832 June Rebellion, based on a book by Victor Hugo of the same name. I highly recommend watching the 10th anniversary concert because (again, in my humble opinion) it had the best of all "Les Miserables" casts, starring Colm Wilkinson as Valjean, Ruthie Henshall as Fantine, and Philip Quast as Javert.
4. "Gimme, Gimme that thing called love!" What musical contains this great line?

Answer: Thoroughly Modern Millie

"Thoroughly Modern Millie" is the story of Millie Dillmount, a girl from Kansas who moves to New York City in the Roaring 20s. Sutton Foster won a Best Actress Tony in 2002 for her portrayal of Millie.
5. In "Wicked", Elphaba (later to be called the Wicked Witch of the West) sings the song "I'm Not That Girl". She sings this because she believes that the boy she is in love with will never love her back. What is the name of this boy?

Answer: Fiyero

"Wicked" is the untold story of the witches of Oz, and their stories before Dorothy dropped in. The original Broadway run starred Idina Menzel (of "Rent" fame) as the green girl, Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda, and Joel Grey as the Wizard.
6. Finish this lyric from "West Side Story": " Tonight, tonight! It all began tonight! I saw you, and the world _____ !" What word or words go in the blank?

Answer: went away

"Tonight" is a classic love duet from the classic musical "West Side Story". In the song, Tony and Maria, the star crossed lovers who are a modern day Romeo and Juliet, sing of how their world was changed when they first met. Too bad it couldn't last. *sigh*
7. In "Phantom of the Opera", one of the characters is affectionately called 'Little Lotte' by her lover. Which character was it?

Answer: Christine

Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Phantom of the Opera" is the tragic story of a brilliant and horribly disfigured madman and the young opera star he adores, but, alas, the love is not returned. The show contains the great songs "The Music of the Night", and "All I Ask of You".
8. "My white knight, not a Lancelot, nor an angel with wings! Just someone to love me, who is not ashamed of a few nice things..." What musical is this line from?

Answer: The Music Man

"The Music Man" starred Robert Preston and Barbara Cook as the romantic leads when it opened on Broadway. The songs, which include "Seventy Six Trombones", "Goodnight, My Someone", and "Lida Rose", were written by Meredith Wilson.
9. Petra, from Stephen Sondheim's "A Little Night Music", sings about several possible choices for a husband in the song "The Miller's Son". Which man does she NOT muse about?

Answer: the sailor

"A Little Night Music" is all about love, marriage, and tangled relationships. The show is very loosely based on the 1955 Ingmar Bergman film "Smiles of a Summer Night". It includes possibly the greatest known Broadway song of all time, "Send in the Clowns".
10. Time for the last question. In the rock opera "Rent" which is a CORRECT romantic pairing?

Answer: Collins/Angel

"Rent" is about a group of bohemians in New York City, coping with life, love, and loss. Collins and Angel sing the duet "I'll Cover You", a sweet heartfelt promise that they will look after each other. Angel later dies of AIDS and Collins sings a reprise of the song alone. Well, that's all, folks, I hope you enjoyed my quiz!
