4. Which Gospel book of the Bible is "Godspell" based on?

Answer: Matthew

"Godspell" goes through the parables that Jesus taught His disciples. One of the interesting things about "Godspell" is that most of the characters do not have names, as they play different roles throughout the show based on what parable is being told. Jesus stays the same, although in some versions he goes by a different name. John and Judas are played by the same person.
5. Who wrote the music for the song "By My Side"?

Answer: Peggy Gordon

Peggy Gordon was born in 1949 in New York City. The lyrics to "By My Side" were written by Jay Hamburger. Schwartz wrote most of the music to replace the original score used in the productions by Carnegie Melton University and La Mama, but this number was kept.
6. Who directed the original production of "Godspell" on Broadway?

Answer: John-Michael Tebelak

Tobelek was born in Ohio on September 17, 1949. He died on April 2, 1985 in New York City. At age 21, Tebelak first produced "Godspell" under the guidance of Lawrence Carra. Carra was a professor at Carnegie Melton University. Tebelak was using this show as his thesis.

8. Who was stage manager in the original production of "Godspell" on Broadway?

Answer: Michael J. Frank

He also was a stage manager for "Roza", "Open Admissions", and "G.R. Point". These shows all came after "Godspell". The stage manager takes over as being in charge once the show goes into tech week. The director may or may not be present during the run of the show; usually for Broadway shows he or she is not at every production.

The stage manager makes sure everything runs smoothly, that actors have their props, the set is correct and actors are in places when and where they need to be.
9. What man, who later worked with David Letterman, played keyboard in the original production of "Godspell" on Broadway?

Answer: Paul Schaffer

The two went on to CBS to the "Late Show with David Letterman" which ran from 1993-2015.
10. Did "Godspell" win any Tony awards in this original production?

Answer: No

It was nominated for Best Original Score but did not win. Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin won the award for Best Original Score that year for "Annie". "Godspell" had a revival in 2011-2012.
