Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Dagda's Daughter, healing, fertility, craft and poetry

Answer: Brigid

Brigid is the Goddess of the Dawn, guardian of livestock, a poet and healer. As daughter of the Dagda, she occupies an honoured place among the Immortals.
2. Setanta, known for battle frenzy, who killed the Hound of Cullan

Answer: Cu Chulainn

As a youngster, Setanta was invited to a feast at the house of Culann, the smith. He arrived late and was attacked by Culann's monstrous guard dog, which he slew in self-defence. Setanta was then honour-bound to take the dog's place, and became known as Culann's Hound, or Cu Chulainn. He became a legend for his skill in battle, when he would become a berserk killer.
3. Mother Goddess of the Tuatha Dé Danann

Answer: Danu

Danu is the Mother of the Tuatha Dé Danann (a supernatural race, possibly the main deities of Ireland). Despite this, there appears to be little known about her.
4. God of the Sea

Answer: Lir / Ler

Lir (sometimes known as Ler) is possibly more than the god of the sea; rather he may personify the sea itself. He is the father of the god Manannan mac Lir, the guardian to the afterlife. He is not to be confused with the father of the enchanted children/swans, the Children of Lir.
5. King of the Tuatha Dé Danann

Answer: The Dagda

The Dagda is associated with magic, fertility and agriculture, and known as the Great Father. The Dagda is sometimes depicted as a giant carrying a staff which can kill or bring to life, a cauldron which is always full, and a harp which can control the seasons. Clearly the Dagda is someone you wouldn't want to argue with.
6. Goddess of war and fate, sometimes described as three sisters

Answer: The Morrigan

The Morrigan is a foreteller of doom, sometimes described as a single entity, sometimes as three sisters. She is a foreteller of death in battle, and can help her favoured side to win victory. Cu Chulainn has a series of encounters with her, culminating in her foretelling of his death in battle.
7. High King of Ireland, god and legendary hero

Answer: Lugh

Lugh is a warrior hero and king, associated with the arts and craftmanship. He is known as "Lugh of the Long Arm", equally skilled with his magical fiery spear and with ruling over his turbulent country.
8. Goddess of love, summer and wealth

Answer: Aine

Sometimes represented as a red mare, Aine is the goddess of summer, sun and wealth. She is also the goddess of love and fertility. In County Limerick the blessing of the land in her honour has been recorded till late in the 19th Century.
9. Three gods of Craftsmanship

Answer: Tri Dee Dana

Goibniu, the metalsmith, Credne, the worker of precious metals, and Luchta, the carpenter and woodwright, forged the weapons used by the Tuatha De Danann.
Goibnu is also known for his hospitality and provides lavish feasts for the gods.
10. Queen of the Banshees

Answer: Clíodhna

Clíodhna (pronounced Cleena) is a powerful banshee who rules as queen of the fairy women in the hills of South Munster. She is also known as a goddess of love and beauty, and the song of her three birds is known to heal sickness.
