Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats", according to the song, in which type of weather are Jellicle Cats tense?

Answer: When there's a storm in the air

The show opens with the cats on a rubbish tip. The cats are wary of the audience at first. On the DVD there is a car number plate with TSE1. This stands for T. S. Eliot, who wrote "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats", which the musical is based on. We learn all about the cats and their different characteristics. Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the lyrics, from T. S. Elliot's poems, with some additional lyrics from director Trevor Nunn.
2. In "The Naming of Cats", which name, that a family of a cat use daily, isn't mentioned?

Answer: Paul

We are told that cats have not one but three different names, one name that a human can never discover. We are also told about the Jellicle Ball.
3. In "The Old Gumby Cat", what type of knot does Jennyanydots tie the curtain cord in?

Answer: Sailor knots

Jennyanydots is a tabby cat with tiger stripes and leopard spots. She sits around all day, but in the evening, she goes to the basement and teaches the mice music, crocheting and tatting. Susie McKenna plays Jennyanydots, in the DVD.
4. In "The Rum Tum Tugger" if you put him in a flat, what would he prefer?

Answer: House

Rum Tum Tugger is a seriously cool cat! He is the younger brother of Munkustrap, who does a lot of singing in the show. In the DVD, Michael Gruber plays Munkustrap, and John Partridge plays the Rum Tum Tugger.
5. In "Grizabella the Glamour Cat", which person (not a cat) said, "You'd really thought she ought to be dead"?

Answer: Postman

Grizabella used to be friends with the other cats, but they have rejected her. The corner of Grizabella's eye is twisted like a crooked pin. Elaine Paige plays Grizabella in the DVD.
6. In "Bustopher Jones" how many clubs has Bustopher got, approximately?

Answer: 8 or 9

Bustopher is remarkably fat black and white cat. He wears a monocle and a red rose. James Barron plays Bustopher in the DVD.
7. In "Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer", where have the two cats made their home?

Answer: Victoria Grove

They are both successful cat burglars. They enjoy creating chaos. Most of the time, the humans don't know which cat has caused the chaos. Jo Gibb plays Rumpleteazer and Drew Varley, in the DVD, plays Mungojerrie.
8. In "Old Deuteronomy" which Queen is mentioned?

Answer: Victoria

Old Deuteronomy is the chief of the cats. He has buried at least nine wives. All the other cats respect him...then again; most of the cats are his children! Old Deuteronomy decides which cat will go to the Heaviside Layer (Heaven) and be reborn. Ken Page plays Old Deuteronomy in the DVD. Elaine Paige (no relation) plays Grizabella.
9. In "The Awful Battle of the Pekes and the Pollices", where is it said most people think the big Police dog was?

Answer: "Wellington Arms"

The great Rumpus cat stops the battle. The cats pretend to be Pekes and Pollices, with shoeboxes and paper bags over their heads, in the DVD.
10. In "Jellicle Ball", if it happens to be a stormy night, where will Jellicle Cats practice a caper or two?

Answer: In the hall

The Jellicle Ball is held once a year, when the Jellicle moon is shining bright. All cats attend; at the end of it a cat is chosen to go to the Heaviside Layer.
11. In "Memory", what gathers at Grizabella's feet in the lamplight?

Answer: Leaves

"Memory" is probably the most well known of the songs in "Cats". Grizabella sings of how things used to be and how it will soon be morning. Old Deuteronomy is the only cat that seems to like Grizabella. He sings about "The moment of Happiness".
12. In "Gus, the theatre cat" Gus had acted with Tree...but who else?

Answer: Irving

Gus (real name Asparagus) is an old cat, whose paw shakes. But he remembers how he starred in many productions. He does not think the cats are trained nowadays. In the stage show, there is a part, which follows this song called "Growl Tiger's Last Stand". John Mills plays Gus, in the DVD.
13. In "Skimbleshanks the Railway Cat", what time does Skimbleshanks appear, so that the night mail train can leave?

Answer: 11.42 pm

Skimbleshanks was busy in the luggage van. He makes sure the trains run on time and everything is in order. Skimbleshanks and the other cats make a train. At the end of the song, Macavity, the mystery cat, who all the cats are terrified of, appears, and kidnaps Old Deuteronomy. Geoffrey Garrat plays Skimbleshanks in the DVD.
14. In "Macavity the Mystery Cat", what colour is Macavity?

Answer: Ginger

Macavity is a master criminal, who can never be caught. Macavity disguises himself as Old Deuteronomy to fool the other cats. The cats fight Macavity and finally defeat him. But they still need Old Deuteronomy. Bryn Walters plays Macavity in the DVD.
15. Finally, in "Mr Mistoffelees", where might you find a knife and fork, after one of Mr Mistoffelees' tricks?

Answer: On the lawn

For me, this is my favourite part, when magical Mr Mistoffelees brings Old Deuteronomy back to the cats. Grizabella is accepted by the other cats again and is chosen to go to the Heaviside Layer.
I hope you enjoyed my quiz.
