Answer: cat

Needless to say, this means you're really nervous. You'd be watching your tail so it wouldn't get smashed!

2. Eatin' high on the ____.

Answer: hog

This sayin' comes from the fact that people once considered the backstrap and other cuts of meat that were higher up the pig's back to be better. Thus, affluent people ate high on the hog, while everyone else ate whatever was left.

This means that you couldn't be more right. Look away, look away, look away, Dixieland!

4. Mad as a wet ___.

Answer: hen

You could say cat, because most cats don't like to get wet, but then you would be wrong. Most hens don't like to be wet either, hence the saying.

5. Mad as a settin' ____.

For those of you who don't know, a settin' hen would be settin' on something. You guessed it-eggs! They can get downright mean when you try to take their eggs away.

Don't ask me where this came from. I definitely wouldn't want to be around a person like this. They might also have a hammer around.

Seeing as how fire is not a living thing, I'm not sure how it could be mad, unless you see it as some kind of demon entity....I believe such a literary device is called personification. That also applies to the phrase "mad as a hornet."

9. Cold as ____ blazes.

Answer: blue

You think of blazes, and you think of a hot, red fire. On the reverse side, a cold fire would be blue, right? Well, wrong. The blue part is hottest so this doesn't really make any sense and...didn't I say I would shut up?

10. Shoot ____ and save matches.

Answer: fire

There's no real meaning behind this except that it's something you say when you get annoyed. My grandma says it a lot.
