Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many songs are located in Act 1 of the workshop?

Answer: 12

The workshop included the songs "The Lord's Prayer," "The Gym Song," "Dream On," "I Can Hear My Heart," "Open Your Heart," "And Eve Was Weak," "Don't Waste the Moon," "Evening Prayers," "Tommy's Poem," Do Me A Favor," "It Only Has to Happen Once," and "I Never Dreamed/I Remember How Those Boys Could Dance."
2. How many songs are located in Act 1 of the LONDON show, not counting the overture or incidental orchestra stuff?

Answer: 13

The London show included the songs "In," "Dear Lord," "Dream On," "Locker Room Scene," "Carrie," "Open Your Heart," "And Eve Was Weak," "Transition to Drive-In," "Don't Waste the Moon," "Evening Prayers," "Unsuspecting Hearts," "Do Me A Favor," and "Act 1 Finale."
3. How many workshop songs went straight into the original London show unchanged?

Answer: 0

Absolutely no songs made it through! Songs were either removed, added, or changed.
4. Which of the following workshop cast member went on to either the London or Broadway show?

Answer: None of these

None of the cast went on to star in the show although these three did give wonderful performances.
5. Which of the following duos from the BROADWAY show received the most praise from critics?

Answer: Linzi Hateley as Carrie and Betty Buckley as Margaret

So far, I've seen reviews from Howard Kissel, Al Hirschfeld, Gregory Matzker, and Shawn Bittick praising their performances. I myself found their performances mind-boggling and on a scale of 1 to 10, a 9.5. Only one review from Lavonne Bruckner praised Darlene Love, and one other from Alex Pittman praised Charlotte d'Amboise. Barbara Cook was in the London show, not Broadway.
6. Which show had the lengthiest run?

Answer: London

It lasted slightly less than a month in London, and only five performances on Broadway. Neither of the revivals has happened ... YET! I, like many people, can't wait for it to happen again.
7. How much did the production cost to make?

Answer: $7 million

Huge special effects, including walls of flame erupting from the ground, flames lighting up Carrie's hands, and even a ridiculous stage-filling white staircase descending from the flies, made this "Broadway's most expensive flop."
8. Which other famous one-word-title musical did composer Michael Gore and lyricist Dean Pitchford collaborate on?

Answer: Fame

Gene Anthony Ray was also involved with "Fame."
9. Who wrote the short, strange, rhyming book of the show?

Answer: Lawrence D. Cohen

Lawrence D. Cohen wrote a superb screenplay for the movie, but his dialogue for the show was nothing short of ridiculous. For example, the girls' insults toward Carrie were full of stuff like, "What a loser! Wouldn't choose her!" "What a mess! How she's dressed!" and "What a clod! Look at that bod!"
10. Which famous New York acting summer camp put on a production of "Carrie: The Musical?"

Answer: Stagedoor Manor

This production featured children ranging in age from 8 to 18. It was a bit off-putting to see a 13-year-old performing the shower scene and "The Destruction," but most of the cast was excellent.
