Meretseger was especially revered by the inhabitants of Deir el-Medina who were responsible for building the royal tombs (they called her 'Lady of the Peak'). She was believed to strike at workers who committed crimes, but if the victim repented of their actions, she mercifully would heal the wound she had inflicted.
