Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was Ged's usename as a boy?

Answer: Duny

It was the only thing his mother gave him besides life, for she died before he was a year old.
Ged, of course is his truename, given at age 13 and Sparrowhawk is his use name. Frodo, well, he's from "Lord of the Rings," of course.
2. Who gave Ged his truename?

Answer: Ogion

After the "battle" with the Kargs, Ogion healed the boy Duny and promised to return to give him his truename and take him as an apprentice.

Nemmerle was the Archmage on Roke and Gandalf is also from "Lord of the Rings."
3. How many Masters are on the Isle of Roke?

Answer: 9

Master Changer, Master Doorkeeper, Master Namer, Master Herbal, Master Patterner, Master Windkey, Master Hand, Master Chanter and Master Summoner. There is also the Archmage, but he is not counted as one of the Masters.
4. Who was Ged's only friend among the other students on Roke?

Answer: Vetch

Ged's usename is Sparrowhawk. Jasper was his rival. Yarrow is Vetch's sister.
5. Ged was able to save his friend Pechvarry's son Ioeth from redfever on Low Torning.

Answer: false

The boy died of the fever, but Ged followed the boy to the Lands of the Dead before he realized he could not save him.
6. What was hidden in the Court of the Terrenon?

Answer: a jewel

It was called the Terrenon, a jewel that would answer any question asked. But it was also perilous and would possess anyone who touched it. Ged did not touch the stone, even to get his most pressing question answered.
7. What did Ged change himself into to fly away from Osskill, eventually reaching Gont?

Answer: a Pilgrim Falcon

He chose a bird other than his usename would suggest, because the Pilgrim Falcon flies like an arrow. Serret changed into a seagull.
8. What did Ged do to show his gratitude to the old man and woman from the Kargad Empire?

Answer: fixed their spring to be fresh water

The boat he built for himself; the old woman gave the metal to Ged (which turned out to be part of the Ring of Erreth-Akbe). He did offer to return them to their home, but they did not wish to leave.
9. What is the usename of Vetch's sister?

Answer: Yarrow

The little dragon she wore on her wrist was called a Harrekki. Her truename is Kest, which means "minnow" in the Old Speech.
10. What name did Ged name the shadow?

Answer: Ged

The shadow was, of course, part of him, and he reclaimed it at the end.
