Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which character does not have a physical peculiarity that Mr. Treves may recognize?

Answer: Kay

Audrey has a scar behind her ear. Ted has a misshapen skull. Mary has a lock of grey hair. Other characters with physical peculiarities are Nevile, with different-sized pinkies, and Thomas, who has a limp.
2. Why is Lady Tressilian upset?

Answer: Nevile invited both of his wives

Lady Tressilian did not believe in divorce and she thought Audrey was a much better wife than Kay.
3. What is so significant about Nevile's tennis matches?

Answer: He doesn't get angry if he loses

Nevile is known for his mild temperament. He also has a killer backhand.
4. How does Audrey's hair get on Nevile's suit?

Answer: Her hair gets caught in a button when Nevile and Audrey were looking for an earring.

This just helped Nevile's plan to incriminate Audrey more.
5. Why is Mr. MacWhirter mad about his dry cleaning?

Answer: They gave him the wrong suit

They actually gave him Nevile's suit. Nevile had given the dry cleaners MacWhirter's name.
6. How did Superintendent Battle know Audrey was innocent despite the fact that she confessed?

Answer: Because his daughter had the same look on her face when she confessed to a theft she didn't commit

Battle's daughter confessed to a series of thefts at her school that she did not commit. She had the same look on her face that Audrey had when she confessed.
7. Why did Audrey and Nevile get a divorce?

Answer: So Audrey could marry Adrian

Everyone believes that Nevile left Audrey for Kay, however it is Audrey that left Nevile. This is a fact that Thomas Royde is aware of.
8. Who tries to commit suicide in the same spot that Andrew MacWhirter tried to?

Answer: Audrey

Audrey tried to commit suicide because she knew that she would be arrested for the murder that she did not commit. She is prevented by doing such by MacWhirter.
9. Everyone's story that leads up to the murder comes together at a point known as the Zero Hour. True or False: The Zero Hour in "Towards Zero" is the death of Lady Tressilian.

Answer: False

The Zero Hour is the would-be hanging of Audrey Strange.
10. Which of the following does not happen when Superintendent Battle reveals the solution?

Answer: Battle reveals that MacWhirter lied about Audrey's alibi.

Battle does not reveal that MacWhirter lied to the group. Instead he waits until he gets Audrey alone and tells her. Battle pushed Ted into the water to prove that he couldn't swim. If Ted could swim, he could have committed the murder. After Battle lays out the whole plan, Nevile confesses.

This was necessary because a lot of the evidence against him could be explained as him being framed by Audrey.
