The M16 informed the police who he was and the police had to let him go. The people there seemed almost scared of him because he worked for them. He did not know that after they got him out, they would send him on yet another dangerous mission.

Alex imagined that it was an ordinary ladder and he had climbed a lot of those, but he knew that if he fell down from the top of this ladder he would be falling to his death and he also risked being seen by the builders. He did in fact reach the top without any accidents, and none of the builders noticed him until he had started the crane.

This is not mentioned in all the books as Crawley is not such a major character but it is mentioned in this book and that's why I wrote this question. There's nothing much to say about that man except that he really looked like the employee of the bank which the M16 were impersonating.
