Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is Frank Gilbreth Sr. best known as?

Answer: A Motion Study Expert

Frank Gilbreth Sr. published many papers and books all about how to save time doing things. He taught people how to save time performing such tasks as minor surgeries, doing daily chores, and laying bricks.
2. One of Frank and Lillian Gilbreth's children died as a child. What was his/her name?

Answer: Mary

Although the death of their child Mary left them with only eleven children, they always referred to themselves as a dozen. They simply carried on as if she was still there.
3. What was written all over the walls and ceilings of the Gilbreths' summer cottage?

Answer: The Morse Code

Frank Gilbreth Sr. decided that the best way to teach his children the Morse Code was to surround them with it and reward the ones who learned it the fastest. He would place notes in the house that would translate into a place where a secret treat would be hidden; although sometimes he would write a note that was simply a joke, or a dead end. He greatly enjoyed a good laugh!
4. What was the family car called?

Answer: Foolish Carriage

Frank Gilbreth Sr. called his car Foolish Carriage because he said it was foolish for any man with as many children as he had to own a motor car.
5. Where does the family (minus Frank Gilbreth Sr.) go on their hair raising train trip?

Answer: Oakland

The family went to visit Lillian's family in Oakland, California, for several months while Frank Sr. was serving his country during WWI.
6. What does Anne do that her mother then has all the other girls do?

Answer: Bob her hair

Anne took it upon herself to bob her hair, and after the initial shock wore off Lillian decided that all the other girls should have their hair bobbed as well. It was so much easier and it "saved motions". What better for the family of Frank Gilbreth?!
7. What animal, that was a pet of the Gilbreth children, died? (this was before the dog)

Answer: A Sheep

It is quoted in the book that, "Never was a sheep shorn so often by so many". Poor little sheep...
8. What were the Gilbreth children once mistaken for on a drive?

Answer: An Orphanage

After this incident Anne put an end to the dusters that the girls were previously forced to wear on drives. Lillian agreed with her, saying that it was the last straw.
9. True or False: The Gilbreth children were evenly divided into boys and girls, with six of each.

Answer: True

It's true...the children are (in no specific order):

Girls-Anne, Martha, Mary, Ernestine, Lily, and Jane
Boys-Frank Jr., Bob, John, Bill, Fred, and Dan.
10. A tricky one for the last one: Frank Jr.'s middle initial is B. What does it stand for?

Answer: Bunker

Named after his father, his full name is Frank Bunker Gilbreth Jr. I hope you enjoyed this quiz!
