Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the poem found at the beginning of the Chronicles?

Answer: Canticle of the Dragon

What a great poem this is...the only thing that seems odd is that it mentions 'the three moons' but in one of the Chronicles Raistlin says he doesn't know anything about three moons....however several times he mentions/quotes the Canticle. Oh well. Still a fantastic poem.
2. What is the first line of the poem at the beginning of the Chronicles?

Answer: Hear the sage as his song descends

The other three are lines that appear later in the Canticle.
3. 'And so into the shadow, and not your shadow but the eager greyness expecting light, I ride the _____ away.'

Answer: storm

This is taken from the letter Tanis writes Kitiara just before he leaves her in Flotsam.
4. 'And yet you love me, simple as the rush And balance of our blindly mingled blood'. Who is Raistlin writing to?

Answer: Caramon

This poem is so sad...it's called 'Raistlin's Farewell' and it appears at the end of the last book of the Chronicles, when Raistlin fully turns to darkness.
5. 'For he knew _____ and the shine Of the dark moon...'

Answer: Kitiara

'...on her darkest hair'. 'he' being Tanis, Kitiara's lover.
6. 'But not for you: You cannot follow me into the night, Into the ___ ___ ___...'

Answer: maze of sweetness

'Raistlin's Farewell' again. Raistlin tells Caramon he cannot follow him, despite the fact that Caramon offered to accompany Raistlin into the darkness.
7. 'Beyond the ___, ___ skies'.

Answer: wild, impartial

This is part of the Solamnic Death Chant.
8. 'The grasslands are endless And summer sings on, And Goldmoon the princess' What is the next line?

Answer: Loves a poor man's son.

The poor man's son is, of course, Riverwind.
9. In Crysania's Song, what comes from the dust?

Answer: Water

Crysania sings this when she realises Raistlin has abandoned her in the Abyss. It's so sad! But I refuse to believe that Raistlin is all bad. And when he comes back, he does mention that he thought of her when he was in the Abyss.
10. 'Thy time is thy own'- what is this song about?

Answer: A time-travelling device

This song supposedly contains the instructions needed to use the device...however Raistlin tricks Tasslehoff and when Tas follows the instructions in the song, the device breaks, leaving Tas, Caramon and Crysania stranded in the past at the time before the Cataclysm.
11. 'From darkness to darkness I shout/Beneath my feet all is made firm'. What colour dragon is this line relevant to?

Answer: Red

There are five dragons guarding the Portal to the Abyss, and in order to open the Abyss a line must be recited to each dragon in turn. The Red Dragon is the third dragon in the sequence.
12. Does the Song of Huma begin and end with the same line?

Answer: No

The Song of Huma begins 'Out of the village, out of the thatched and clutching shires' but ends 'Above the village, over the thatched and nurturing shires'. So quite similar but not the same.
13. 'Thus ended in thunder the Age of Dreams'- what Age came after this? The Age of ____

Answer: Might

'Thus ended in thunder the Age of Dreams
And began the Age of Might,
When Istar, kingdom of light and truth, arose in the east'
14. 'I think of Sturm, Laurana and the others, but _____ the foremost....' Who is Tanis thinking of?

Answer: Sturm

This comes from the aforementioned letter Tanis writes to Kitiara.
15. 'In balance is all purity destroyed, But in ______ darkness lies the truth'

Answer: voluptuous

From 'Raistlin's Farewell' again. Brilliant poem.
16. 'There _____ appeared In a pool of stars and glory...'

Answer: Paladine

Taken from the 'Song of Huma'- Paladine appears to Huma and tells him that he must choose between his love and the secret of the Dragonlance. Huma chooses the Dragonlance and saves Krynn from the Queen of Darkness.
17. 'Thus Huma, Knight of Solamnia, Lightbringer, First _______'

Answer: Lancer

Taken from the 'Canticle of the Dragon', this is from the part where Huma receives the secret of the Dragonlance from the gods.
18. 'The staff flares in blue light And both of them vanish:' What is the next line?

Answer: The grasslands are faded, and autumn is here.

This is from the song that Goldmoon sings in the Inn of the Last Home in Solace. It tells the story of Goldmoon and Riverwind's exile from Que-shu.
19. What is the last line of the poem at the beginning of the Chronicles?

Answer: We have yet to hear their answer

From the Canticle again. This line is talking about how the new gods have not answered their followers.
20. This one isn't found in Chronicles or Legends, but I found it on the internet and it is a great poem- Crysania's Song Part II. 'Raistlin, beloved dark angel, sleep well, For in your dreams, your heart will be _______'

Answer: victorious
