Khelben and Laeral did at one point question each other as to why a certain memory came to mind all of a sudden. However, they didn't think much of it, and dismissed it.

2. Who did Alassra attempt to bargain with while trying to save Elminster during her first attempt going into Avernus?

Answer: Asmodeus

It would make sense for her to seek a bargain with Asmodeus. Asmodeus is the Lord of Avernus, and as such, he was very likely to know where Elminster was, as well as who had him.

3. What was Nergal so eager to find and gain access to, as well as the use of, in Elminster's mind?

Answer: silver fire

Nergal was looking for a way to ascend higher in the hierarchy of Avernus. Nergal decided that Elminster, being a Chosen of Mystra, would have the power to allow him to do so. As such, Nergal went through Elminster's mind, trying to find instances when Elminster used his magic and the silver fire.

Those who have read "Elminster in Myth Drannor" would remember the Srinshee. She was one of the few elves who were welcoming of Elminster when he had first arrived in the Elven capital city centuries before. The memory shows that the man caring for her at the time thought very little of Alustriel's desire to become a Harper, considering her too pretty and girlish to take her seriously. In fact, according to the dream, she was about to be married off to a man who obviously had an even poorer view of her. Thankfully, she managed to kill her "fiance" before he had the chance to despoil her.

Although both Mystra and Halaster both entered Avernus attempting to get Elminster out, Alassra was the one who eventually succeeded. It wasn't easy for any of them, though, although they certainly caused a great deal of havoc in Avernus in the doing.

Answer: closing a rift between Avernus and Toril

The rift (or scar, as it is referred to in the book) would have allowed denizens of Avernus to enter the Prime Material Plane. Elminster had to close the scar, but to do so he had to do it from within Avernus.
