Answer: In the body of the most popular girl in the school

Amber winds up in the body of Jessica Bradley, the most popular girl at Halsey High. For reasons which only become apparent later on, Jessica was trying to kill herself at the exact moment Amber was dying, so her body became "vacant" at just the right moment.

Answer: Killashandra Ree

Crystal Singers are infected with an alien symbiote when they arrive on the planet Ballybran, and once there, can never leave for longer than a few weeks at a time. Over the years they spend singing crystal, they suffer from progressive memory loss. The 'jewel junk' is a unique entity, and seems to be a completely new form of Ballybran crystal. By restoring Killashandra's memory, it lets her take over the Deputy Guild Master's duties and run things while her husband, Guild Master Lars Dahl, is missing.
