Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Under the pen name Amanda Quick, this author published "Close Up", the fourth book of her "Burning Cove" series, on May 5th, 2020. What is her real name?

Answer: Jayne Ann Krentz

Jayne Ann Krentz (married name) has written under seven different names, but (according to her website bio) currently uses three pen names to differentiate the different 'worlds' she writes in.

She uses 'Jayne Ann Krentz' for contemporary romantic-suspense.
She uses 'Jayne Castle' (her maiden name) for futuristic/paranormal romantic-suspense.
She uses 'Amanda Quick' for historical romantic-suspense.

Other names she has also used include Stephanie James, Amanda Glass, Jayne Bentley, and Jayne Taylor.

"Close Up", along with the rest of the books in the series, takes place in Burning Cove, California in the 1930s. In this story, photographer Vivian Brazier connects with investigator Nick Sundridge as they deal with a series of murders amongst the Hollywood elite.
2. May 26th (2020) saw the release of a new novel from Carolyn Brown, set in the town of Rooster, Texas and named for a Depression-era brothel that is now the home of the elderly Carson sisters. What is the title?

Answer: The Banty House

Caroly Brown is a bestselling author of more than 90 romance novels (along with other contemporary works of fiction), with many of them set in Texas or Oklahoma.

All of the titles listed were stand-alone novels written by Brown (not part of a series), with "The Magnolia Inn" and "The Sisters Café" both released in 2019, and "The Daydream Cabin" published in December of 2020.

In "The Banty House", Betsy, Connie, and Kate Carson open their home (the former brothel that they have lived in together for more than 75 years). They take in Ginger, an expecting teen with nowhere else to go, who begins the process of healing and building a new relationship with a young handyman named Sloan.
3. 2020 saw Susan Elizabeth Phillips publish her first stand-alone novel since 2014 on June 9th, telling the tale of a young widow trying to find healing for her broken heart in seclusion in the mountains of Tennessee. Can you strut your stuff and name the right book title?

Answer: Dance Away with Me

Susan Elizabeth Phillips published her first novel "The Copeland Bride" in 1983 collaboratively with Claire Kiehl, using the pen name Justine Cole. Since then she has written twenty-five more novels (with more on the way), including two different series: "Chicago Stars" and "Wynette, Texas".

"Dance Away with Me" sees Tess Hartsong (the aforementioned young widow) trying to get away from it all and live with her heartbreak in solitude. But even in the off-the-beaten-track town of Runaway Mountain she can't avoid building new relationships ... especially with a difficult man by the name of Ian North.
4. Entertainment Weekly dubbed Sarah MacLean "the elegantly fuming, utterly intoxicating queen of historical romance." On June 30th, 2020, she published the third and final book in her "Bareknuckle Bastards" series, following "Wicked and the Wallflower" in 2018 and "Brazen and the Beast" in 2019. Which of these titles completes the series?

Answer: Daring and the Duke

Sarah MacLean is known primarily for writing historical romance novels, but she has also delved into young adult literature (her first published novel). In addition to novel-writing, MacLean has made a name for herself as an advocate for the romance writing, hosting a podcast with critic Jen Prokop that explores the styles and tropes of the genre.

"No Good Duke Goes Unpunished" was the third book in MacLean's "The Rules of Scoundrels" series, published in 2013.

"The Duke of Christmas Present" was a novella published as part of 2018's "How the Dukes Stole Christmas" anthology.

The novella "A Duke Worth Falling For" appeared in 2020's anthology "Naughty Brits".

In "Daring and the Duke", Grace Condry is a streetwise woman who has spent years trying to stay away from Ewan, the Duke of Marwick, whom she once loved and who betrayed her. But when he comes back into her life, she must choose between seeking revenge and accepting reconciliation.
5. Jude Deveraux and Tara Sheets collaborated to write a love story between Liam O'Connor and Cora McLeod that spans centuries. They were lovers in a past life, but in the present she wants nothing to do with him. Published on September 15th, 2020, can you make a lucky guess as to the title of their novel?

Answer: Chance of a Lifetime

Jude Deveraux has written over 70 novels since her first in 1977, the majority of them historical romantic novels with many of them also touching on the paranormal or dealing with time travel. "Chance of a Lifetime" is one of these.

Tara Sheets is a relative newcomer to the romance novelist scene, publishing her first novel in 2016. But "Don't Call Me Cupcake" won the Golden Heart award for that year (best novel by an unpublished author) from the Romance Writers of America.

"Remembrance" was a 1994 stand-alone novel by Deveraux.

"Days of Gold" was published in 2009 and was the first novel of the "Edilean" series by Deveraux.

In "Chance of a Lifetime", it is the year 1844 and Liam O'Connor is a scoundrel while Cora McLeod is the daughter of a squire; they fall madly in love with one another. But what Liam didn't know was that she was supposed to fall in love with someone else. So, when he is given another chance to make sure that happens (in another life), he faces a quandary, because he still loves her.
6. Nicholas Sparks published his first romance novel, "The Notebook" in 1995. On September 29th of 2020 he published his 21st novel. Can you 'recall' the title?

Answer: The Return

Although not quite as prolific as some of his counterparts, Nicholas Sparks has made a visible impact in the field with all of his novels making the New York Times bestseller list (and 15 of them reaching Number One!). Eleven of his novels have also adapted for the silver screen, the first of which was "Message in a Bottle" (1999), which was based off of his second published (1998) novel of the same name.

"The Choice" published in 2007, and "The Lucky One" in 2008, and "The Last Song" in 2009. All three of them have been adapted into movies.

7. Debbie Macomber has been writing romance and women's fiction since the 1980s, with over 200 million books sold! Nearly every year in that time, she released a Christmas-themed romance novel, and 2020 was no exception. Published on October 13th, what was the title of her latest Christmas romance, drawing inspiration from a well-known song?

Answer: Jingle All the Way

Debbie Macomber is one of the most popular and published romance and women's fiction novelists, with thirteen of her books having reached the top of the New York Times bestseller list and a number of her books having been made into Hallmark movies and one book series ("Cedar Cove") adapted as a television series.

"Christmas Letters", part of "The Blossom Street" series, was published in 2006.

"The Perfect Christmas" was published in 2009, one of Macomber's more than 70 stand-alone novels.

One of those previously mentioned Hallmark movies was based on "Mr. Miracle", which was published in 2014, part of the "Mrs. Miracle and Mr. Miracle Series".

And 2020's "Jingle All the Way" follows a stressed-out real estate executive named Everly Lancaster as she takes a much needed holiday... only, her vindictive assistant booked her on an Amazon cruise instead of the beach she expected. Expecting an awful trip, things take a turn for the better when she meets Asher Adams, who opens her eyes to the beauty around her.

Answer: The Awakening

Nora Roberts is one of the pen names of Eleanor Marie Robertson, along with J.D. Robb, Jill March, and Sarah Hardesty. She published her first novel in 2001, and has gone on to write over 200 more (a milestone reached in 2012). 9. On December 1st, 2020, Alyssa Cole released her new novel "How to Catch a Queen", beginning a new series with what appropriate title?

Answer: Runaway Royals

Alyssa Cole published her first novel in 2014 and has established herself as a writer of contemporary, inclusive historical, and science fiction romance novels.

Her new series, entitled "Runaway Royals", is actually a spin-off from her established "Reluctant Royals" series (begun in 2018). The other two 'Royals' titles were my inventions.

In "How to Catch a Queen", Shanti Mohapi marries King Sanyu of Njaza in an arranged marriage, but they didn't expect to actually fall in love. But a life of politics and expectations - and marginalization of women - becomes too much for Shanti, who runs from her situation. Can the king win back her love?
10. Danielle Steel has written over a hundred and fifty novels since her first book was published in 1973, and in 2020 she released six new books (four of them after COVID-19 was declared a pandemic). Which of these was NOT one of them?

Answer: Going Home

Danielle Steel is an extremely popular romance novelist, having sold more than 800 million copies of her books, making her the fourth bestselling author of all time (and the only one of the top four still living).

Regularly publishing multiple books in a year, 2020 was no exception. With lots of love and romance to go around, her publishing year looked like this:

January 7th - "Moral Compass"
March 3rd - "The Numbers Game"
April 28th - "The Wedding Dress"
June 9th - "Daddy's Girls"
August 18th - "Royal"
November 17th - "All That Glitters"

"Going Home" was actually Danielle Steel's first novel, published (as mentioned) in 1973. The story follows Gillian Forrester as she flees from her home in San Francisco because of a heartbreaking betrayal. With a new life and new relationship begun in New York, the future looks bright... until her past catches up with her.
