Answer: Miss Hilly and Miss Leefolt

They have been best friends since they went to Power Elementary school together. Her favorite photograph of the three of them is them in junior high, sitting in the football stands shoulder to shoulder because they are close friends. The stands were empty around them. In college at Ole Miss, Miss Hilly and she were roommates for two years before Miss Hilly left to get married.

Answer: A house on a cotton plantation

The plantation is named Longleaf. Three mossy oak trees sit in the front yard. It is five minutes from town, but it is considered the country by a majority of people. The cotton fields are ten thousand acres, with plants as tall as Miss Skeeter's waist.
3. Is Miss Skeeter single in the beginning of the book?

Answer: Yes

She once had a boy named Charles Gray as a study partner at Ole Miss in college. He had gotten drunk and kissed her and squeezed her so it felt wonderful instead of hurting. He did not marry her, he married a five-foot tall girl named Jenny Sprig. Miss Skeeter asks her mom once if it would be so terrible if she never met a husband. Her mom told her not to say that.

Carlton was the person who gave her the nickname Skeeter when she was born. He told the hospital room, "It's not a baby, it's a skeeter!" Carlton is three years older than Miss Skeeter. Carlton is tall and handsome. He has wavy blonde hair.

Answer: Eugenia

Ever since Miss Skeeter was born, her mother has been trying to convince people to call her Eugenia. The nickname fit when she was a child because of her nose that was pointy and beak-like. Her mother does not like nicknames.

Answer: No

When she was 16 she was not pretty, she was very tall. In class pictures she would be put in the back row with the boys. She was five-foot-eleven when she was 16.

Answer: Constantine

She lived in a Negro neighborhood called Hotstack a mile from her house. Constantine had one sister. She grew up in Mississippi on a sharecropping farm. Constantine once told Miss Skeeter that ugliness is on the inside, not the outside, when she was 13.
9. What did Miss Skeeter start doing when she was 14?

Answer: Smoking cigarettes

Her mother said she wasn't allowed to smoke until she was 17. Miss Skeeter would get her cigarettes from Carlton's dresser drawer; he kept a pack of Marlboros in it. Her dad sometimes smoked a pipe, and her mother smoked nothing.
10. After Miss Skeeter came back from college, Constantine wasn't there. Who was the new maid?

Answer: Pascagoula

Nobody would tell her anything about why Constantine had left. The new maid was Pascagoula. Pascagoula was the cousin of Yule May, Miss Hilly's maid. She wasn't even five-feet tall.
