When the waitress comes to the table asking the girls what they would like to drink, Madeline orders four glasses of tomato juice. "We can have Bloody Marys," she says with a wink. Her father shows up, and appears to know what they are drinking. We learn later in the book that he is abusive towards Madeline.

Samantha, the sales girl at Clique is uncooperative in giving Emma information. Apparently, I stole from there the day I died. This gives Emma an idea. The relief that floods over Emma that Laurel is not a suspect causes her to hug her and tell her she is glad she had a good time.
