Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of the book a "crime" is committed in front of Jack Reacher. Which of these crimes does Jack stop?

Answer: Kidnapping

After stopping the "kidnapping" Reacher accidentally shoots a plain clothes police officer who was also there. It is only later in the book that we find out that the incident had been staged so that Reacher could gain access to the home of Zachary Beck.
2. After "stopping" the crime from occurring Reacher is co-opted by a group of Federal Agents into trying to locate a missing person. What is the name Reacher is given for this missing person?

Answer: Teresa Daniel

Teresa Daniel was placed undercover into Beck's company to find out how he was smuggling drugs into the country. Unfortunately she disappeared shortly afterwards, and to compound the problem the operation was "off the books".
3. Who was the target of the "crime" that Reacher stopped?

Answer: Richard Beck

Richard was being driven by his bodyguards from his school to his home to arrive in time for his mothers birthday. The attempted "kidnapping" would cause Richard's father to investigate, and attack, those whom he believed had gone after his son.
4. Reacher manages to become employed by Beck after returning his son to him safe and sound. He contacts the Federal Agents by an email device. Where is the email device hidden?

Answer: In the heel of his right shoe

The email device becomes an issue when Reacher wants to show Paulie a martial arts kick at a punch bag. He decides not to do this because he is right footed and there was a chance that the device could become damaged during the kick.
5. During a confrontation with the muscle-bound guard Paulie, Reacher is challenged to which trial of strength?

Answer: Arm Wrestling

Paulie is a large steroid-enhanced musclebound cretin who had been in the army before being sent to the stockade for attacking an officer. His violent behaviour is fuelled by his intake of steroids to maintain his physique. He takes an instant dislike to Reacher and tries to dominate him with this challenge.
6. As a test Reacher is told to drive a van to New London, leave it there, and bring a different van back. All throughout the journey he had been followed. Who was the person who followed him?

Answer: Angel Doll

Angel Doll is a former army communications technician who had spent eight years in Leavenworth for raping a female Lieutenant-Colonel. He had tried to blackmail Reacher by letting him know that the car Reacher had stolen wasn't kosher. Reacher ended up having to eliminate him.
7. Reacher has his own personal reasons for helping the Feds in their operation. We learn that when he was still in the army one of his staff was murdered by Quinn. What is the name of the victim who was a member of his staff?

Answer: Dominique Kohl

Dominique was a member of the Military Police under Reacher. She had been assigned to investigate Quinn, with disastrous results. Reacher has never forgiven Quinn for what he did and seeks to get his revenge.
8. What is the name of Quinn's business?

Answer: Xavier Express Company

His full name is Francis Xavier Quinn and he is a former intelligence officer who specialised in the Middle East. He dropped his surname after surviving an execution attempt carried out by Reacher. Reacher was not going to make the same mistake twice.
9. The title of this story is "Persuader", but what exactly is a "Persuader"?

Answer: a paramilitary weapon

The "Persuader" is a "tactical" shotgun made by O. F. Mossberg and Sons, which is based in New Haven, Connecticut. The "cruiser" model described in the book is a pistol-gripped pump-action shotgun which can be carried by the use of a sling. Reacher takes two of these weapons with him when he goes to confront Quinn.
10. Finally what trade was Beck involved in?

Answer: Arms Trade

Originally Reacher and the Federal Agents believed that Beck was involved in the illegal drugs trade. However, it became apparent that Beck was neither rich enough, nor knowledgeable enough, to be selling drugs. He did know a lot about arms.
