Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What year was Erik born?

Answer: 1831

Indeed, little Erik was a huge surprise for his widowed mother. She was going to name him Charles after her deceased husband, but changed her mind when she found out her son was horribly deformed.
2. What was the doctor's name who started to date Erik's mother, despite Erik's disapproval?

Answer: Etienne Barye

Despite the fact that most of the village was against Madeline, this passing through Doctor refused to be detoured from his possible match made in heaven. He is left alone when Erik runs away, believing that his mother will give him away so that she and the doctor can get married.
3. What was Giovanni's daughter called?

Answer: Luciana

Even though Erik tried to avoid her, Luciana became infatuated with Erik, not really true romance, but probably more likely curiousity with his mask. It is her obsession with what lies beneath the mask that kills her in the end.
4. Who says 'Death is death however it comes, legal or otherwise'?

Answer: Erik

Erik, back in the shah's power, had little mercy in killing. The quote shows his view on death.
5. What was Erik's cat called?

Answer: Ayesha

His pride and {joy;} the one thing he loved more than music itself. As Christine notes bitterly: 'She leapt down onto the center of the keyboard, fracturing his beautiful music into jarring discord... 'My Darling!' he protested laughingly. The depth of love in those two words caused all the muscles in my stomach to tighten with sudden rage, but still I did not move to betray my presence.' pg 438-439 of Susan Kay's Phantom
6. Where does Erik go to pray?

Answer: rooftop

Amazing the time when he decides to become religious again, Christine and Raoul emerge, and Erik has to endure listening to Christine's betrayal and sealed with a kiss.
7. Who is the father of Charles?

Answer: Erik

Interesting twist that Susan Kay gives the reader. Readers have their suspicions when they find out that Christine and Erik were alone for a long period of time and Christine insists that Raoul is fully sure that he will be able to forgive her.
8. Do Christine and Raoul marry?

Answer: Yes

Raoul is determined to make Christine his wife, even though he doubts her loyalness during the last days of Erik's life, and even after he finds out that his child, really isn't. Raoul must be given credit for that.
9. What was the Priest's name (the one who baptised Erik)?

Answer: Father Mansart

The one person who Erik remember the most information (or at least one of the people). Countless times it's his teachings that keep Erik from commiting suicide.
10. Who says 'The cuckoo, you see...The cuckoo is a beautiful bird!'?

Answer: Raoul

Raoul's last words, and Susan Kay's end to her novel, how true, what a great summary of the Phantom (at least in my opinion).
