Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How was Prometheus punished?

Answer: He was chained to a cliff

Not fun. He was chained to the cliff by his arms and lege, as well as a large metal thing through his chest.
2. Who was Zeus? (This is easy!)

Answer: the king of the gods

He's the king, that's why it's not a good thing to have him mad at you. Zeus also controls thunder and various other things.
3. Who did Zeus command to put him there?

Answer: Hephaestos

Hephaestos was the god of craftsmanship and therefore was good at iron working and such. He didn't want to do it because Prometheus was kin, but Zeus was the king of the gods and commanded it.
4. What did Prometheus steal from another god to give to people?

Answer: fire

He stole it from Hephaestos. I don't know why he decided to be nice to people, but before they had the things he gave them, all they did was suffer.
5. What were two other things that Prometheus gave to people?

Answer: memory and math

I think he also gave them speech and poetry.
6. Every day, while attached to this cliff, Prometheus is visited by a bird. What does this bird do?

Answer: eats his liver

Being immortal, Prometheus doesn't die from this but heals each night. However, I'm sure it hurts. I think the liver was symbolic to the Greeks, because it's also mentioned in "The Odyssey". (Odysseus was going to cut out Polyphemus' liver.)
7. During the day, what happens to Prometheus?

Answer: He is burnt by the sun

Again, he heals every night. However, this is no ordinary sunburn. He literally gets burnt to a crisp. So he becomes blackened Prometheus, then liverless Prometheus, and finally a Prometheus popsicle before it all starts over again. What a life. And he's immortal, so he's stuck with it forever, or until he's freed.
8. What happens to Prometheus at night? (Besides healing)

Answer: He freezes

They really didn't like him. I think the worst thing he did, in their eyes, was to steal from another god.
9. During his prolonged stay on the mountian, Prometheus gets a visitor. Who?

Answer: Io

Io is a girl with a cow's head who is forced to wander the world and is being driven on (and insane) by a biting fly. There are some real places in Greece named after her. (Or it's speculated that they are.) Io is Oedipus' ancestor, which might explain some of his problems.
10. What did Io do to incur the wrath of the gods?

Answer: She made Hera jealous

Zeus just can't be happy with twelve immortal wives- he even messes with mortals. But Zeus isn't the one you really have to worry about. Hera is very vain and gets jealous easily. And when she's jealous, she's not happy. When she's not happy, you don't want to be in her way.
