Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the very start, Katniss is in the wreckage of District 12. The only place untouched was the Victors Village, where she lived. What did President Snow leave as a message inside her room to tell her that he would always know where she is?

Answer: A rose

After Katniss blew up the arena of the Hunger Games, spies working inside the Capitol for the Districts picked her and the other survivors up, except for Peeta, Johanna and Enobaria who were captured by the Capitol. At the same time, the Capitol sent hovercrafts which bombed District 12 to ashes. Only about an estimated 800 got out alive.
2. What District did Katniss go to when she performed her first live propo (could be called an advert), to be broadcasted throughout all districts?

Answer: District 8

Katniss is filmed while walking around the hospital talking to the people who were hurt during the bombing (from the uprising). As she and the film crew leave, news is spread that there is about to be more bombing. Katniss and her bodyguards destroy most of the hovercrafts before they can do any damage, however the hospital containing thousands of injured people is obliterated.
3. What slogan is displayed at the end of the first propo in District Eight, as Katniss is walking in the ashes of the hospital?

Answer: If we burn, you burn with us

Several more of these propoes are displayed throughout the Districts, causing more uprisings as Districts are beginning to win.
4. Finally, District 13 rescue Peeta and Johanna (Enobaria was let go, because she was not a rebel) from the Capitol. When Katniss walks into the room he is being treated in, Peeta walks up to Katniss and does what?

Answer: He strangles her

The doctors learn that Peeta was injected with tracker jacker venom, made by bees. It causes terror, hallucinations and nightmares of losing the ones you love, and the aftermath gives brief mental confusions. Apparently, the Capitol doctors forced Peeta to watch recordings of Katniss doing something bad (made up to look bad).

The venom refreshed his memory to make him believe that Katniss was as evil as the recordings said.
5. When Katniss and her film crew are making a propo in the remains of District 12, what song does Katniss sing, during their filming break, to the mockingjays?

Answer: The Hanging Tree

This song was a song that Katniss' dad (died in a mining incident) sang once to Katniss. When Katniss' mother heard, she became angry with her husband for singing that song, for some unknown reason, and banned it entirely. According to the story, whenever Katniss or her father sang, even the mockingjays would stop to listen. Mockingjays are birds with an incredible power of repeating anything a human would sing, and adding in their own harmonies to make it sound beautiful.
6. During the novel, Finnick reveals that after winning one of the previous Hunger Games, President Snow forced Finnick to sell his body to the public. Finnick then begins to gather secrets about President Snow. What was one of the secrets Finnick reveals?

Answer: President Snow poisoned all the other people capable of winning the throne over him

Over time, Snow poisoned every contender to the throne with acid, causing most of them to unexpectedly die. People began to suspect Snow one night when one man died over dinner (with all the other remaining contenders) after drinking from his cup. To deflect suspicion, Snow took a sip from his cup. Apparently Snow has unhealable sores at the back of his throat from the acid, and to cover up the smell of blood, he wears a rose which reeks of perfume.
7. Who is the person who tells Katniss about Coin's plan to kill her after the war, as Katniss' influence over every person will stop Coin from becoming President?

Answer: Boggs

President Coin hates Katniss (as Katniss hates her) ever since Katniss demanded that the captured prisoners of the Capitol (Peeta, Johanna and Enobaria) be granted immunity.
Boggs reassures Katniss that under his watch she would not be killed, and that he would protect her.
8. Katniss has a special bow, which has three different types of arrow. One type was normal, one type would leak acid into the person when they are hit, and the last type would explode on contact.

Answer: False

The three types were normal and exploding arrows; however the other type would burst in flames when in contact. In District Eight, Katniss used exploding arrows to shoot down moving hovercrafts. Katniss has absolutely precise aim, for when hunting she would, every time, hit an animal dead in the eye, to not damage the meat of the animal.
9. District 3 is the only district left to win their war.

Answer: False

It is in fact, District 2 left to win. Katniss, having had enough of being underground in District 13, demands that she move to District 2. However she never gets to fight, instead attends war meetings.
10. What is the nickname of the indestructible place in the center of District 2 that no-one can get into without being killed by the Capitol soldiers?

Answer: The Nut

In the end, Gale makes the plan to block the entrances with avalanches from the surrounding mountains, forcing the Capitol to retreat through the train station where they will be captured. However as more innocent people die, Katniss runs into the middle of the battle and gives a speech on how we should be fighting the Capitol not each other (people from District 2 were battling with the Capitol).

As she finishes her speech she gets shot. However she is wearing armour which stops most of the damage.

Her speech causes the people from District 2 fighting with the Capitol to turn on them inside the Nut, ending the war quickly.
11. Skipping along a bit, Katniss and her team are in the Capitol, sneaking their way in, hoping to kill Snow. What person with an important role throughout books two and three dies as they are climbing up the underground ladder?

Answer: Finnick

Finnick is eaten by a bunch of ferocious wolves at the bottom of the ladder. Finnick played an important role by allying with Katniss in book two and saving Peeta's life more than once.
12. When Katniss is outside a huge place containing all of the Capitol's children, hovercrafts appear and drop gifts to the kids. However, half the parcels explode, destroying most of the children. The rebel medics run in to try and aid them. Then the second half of the parcels explode destroying everyone else, including the medics. Who is killed- someone Katniss loves?

Answer: Prim

Katniss screams her name before the bombs explode, and finally Prim hears her. Prim begins running to her but the bombs blow, knocking Katniss backwards as Prim is gone.
13. Katniss realizes bombing the children was District 13's plan all along. Who was responsible for designing the bombs which were set off amongst the children?

Answer: Beetee and Gale

Katniss will never forget the bombing. She now hates Gale for it, despite the fact that she still loves him. Bombing the children ended the war, and Snow was captured and put in jail.
14. Katniss has her bow raised and pointing at President Snow's heart ready for execution. What happens next?

Answer: Katniss shoots Coin and kills her

Katniss remembers that Coin planned to kill her earlier after the war to become President. Also, she used Gale's and Beetee's plans on the children, and her own people, so Katniss shoots her. Katniss is sent to an empty room for a couple of days while they hold court on her case. In the end she is free, as she was apparently "mentally disorientated".
15. Who does Katniss choose in the end - Gale or Peeta?

Answer: Peeta

Gale ends up in District Two with a job not told in the story. Peeta and Katniss, along with several hundred other people including Haymitch, return to District 12, to rebuild their homes and make a living.
Peeta and Katniss have two children who will soon learn about the Hunger Games and Katniss' and Peeta's role.
