She bears a child from the affair but refuses to name the father of her child, protecting him. THEN her husband, previously presumed dead, shows up, and he takes up the cause of the double standard.

Stephen King tells a tale of a teen with few friends and telekinetic power in "Carrie". It was King's first published novel. Carrie is not popular but is asked to the prom. Mean girls dump pig blood on her head, and then the havoc begins, because Carrie has abilities unknown by her classmates.

Answer: Edgar Allan Poe

Perhaps Poe's most famous poem, "The Raven" was first published in 1845. A raven shows up as the protagonist is sitting alone, pondering, "weak and weary", lamenting the loss of his beloved Lenore. The bird has one line, "Nevermore."

Sonnet 43, from the book "Sonnets from the Portuguese" was written in 1850. "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways." The ways include the depth and height of her soul's reach, and with God's permission the love will continue after death. It is SUCH a beautiful poem!
