Part of a mass escape attempt, he spent years in solitary confinement, despite the 19 day maximum rule. More animal than human when finally released, he was goaded into killing the prisoner who had ratted him out. Now his lawyer is intent on proving that the brutal treatment he received at Alcatraz was to blame for the murder.
2. (1992) Gary Oldman played the title role in this movie which was very true to Bram Stoker's classic novel. Anthony Hopkins plays Dr. Van Helsing, the expert called in to try to save the life of the poor unfortunate that has become the vampire's next victim.
3. (1998) In his younger days Don Diego, played by Anthony Hopkins, was a champion for the people, pitting his will against the corrupt Don Rafael Montero. He paid dearly for his beliefs, as his wife was killed, his daughter taken away, and he was thrown in prison to rot. He manages to escape, but is too old to take up the cause again, so he teaches his young apprentice, played by Antonio Banderas. Together they must save the people from the same evil man, and restore Don Diego's daughter to him.
4. (1994) Antonio Banderas had a supporting role, in this adaptation of an Anne Rice book, that starred Brad Pitt. After the death of his wife, Louis (played by Pitt) sees little left in life to interest him. When the enigmatic Lestat offers him a life of immortality, he accepts. He soon finds that he dislikes the lifestyle, and the need to take human lives.
5. (1991) Brad Pitt had a small role in this poignant movie that stars Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis. Trying to break out of the boredom that defines their lives, two friends set out for a weekend of fun. But things get a little out of hand when they shoot a man who is trying to rape one of them. Before they know it, they're running from the law, trying to get to Mexico before they're caught. Pitt plays a scoundrel they meet along the way who steals all their money, and makes it harder for them to get away...alive.
6. (2002) Twenty years ago Lavinia (Susan Sarandon) and Suzette (Goldie Hawn) were best friends, and shameless rock groupies. Fired from her job, the still free-spirited Suzette decides to look up her old friend, who is now living the life of upper-class respectability. Add to this mix, the neurotic Harry (Geoffrey Rush) who Suzette picks up on her way to find Lavinia, and you have some very interesting dynamics.
7. (1996) Goldie Hawn starred in this delightful movie about three friends, who have reunited because of the suicide of a college friend. Together again, they learn that all three of them have been treated very badly by their husbands, as had their friend who'd killed herself. Adopting the attitude, 'don't get mad, get everything', they set about making their husbands pay, in ways that hurt them the most. Maggie Smith also stars as the much divorced icon of the upper-class, Gunilla Garson Goldberg.
8. (2002) Maggie Smith is the Professor of Transfiguration, and Kenneth Branagh is the Professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts at this school for witchcraft and wizardry. But if the attacks keep up, and that monster isn't caught soon, then the school might have to be closed down.
9. Kenneth Branagh plays a Private Investigator who specializes in finding missing persons. He takes on the task of finding the identity of a mystery woman who he calls Grace. She can't remember a thing about who she is, but is plagued by nightmares about the murder of a famous pianist by her husband. The more he delves into the case, the more he fears that the two of them are inextricably linked to a murder that happened nearly 50 years ago. Robin Williams plays a disgraced psychiatrist who Branagh consults for advice.
10. (2002) Robin Williams stars as Randolph Smiley, a dethroned kid show host who was kicked out for taking bribes to put kids up front on his show. Ed Norton plays Sheldon Mopes, the squeaky-clean, rhinocerous-suited replacement that Randolph is out to get, any way he can.
11. (1996) Ed Norton had his big breakthrough role as Aaron Sampler, a former altar boy accused of murdering the Bishop. Richard Gere played Martin Vail, a high profile, defense lawyer. Things get really interesting when Sampler suggests that there might have been someone else in the room at the time of the murder. But the heat is really turned up when the tapes appear, revealing the Bishop's naughty hobbies.
12. (2002) Richard Gere plays another defense attorney, but this time he sings and dances his way through this excellent movie set in the corruption of the 20's, and based on a Bob Fosse play. Christine Baranski plays 'Miss Mary Sunshine', a reporter that Gere uses for his own purposes.
13. (2000) Christine Baranski plays Martha May Whovier in this remake of a Christmas classic based on a story by Dr. Seuss. Jim Carrey is at his meanest, his greenest, his magnificent best.
14. (1998)Jim Carrey plays an insurance adjustor, and sometimes salesman, who learns that his whole life is nothing but a television show. The town that he thinks he lives in is just a gigantic studio, with hidden cameras planted everywhere. He's the only one that isn't in on the secret, as everyone around him, even his wife, is an actor. The producer of this show, which started when he was just a baby, might be his biological father, played by Ed Harris, who never really wanted to be his father.
15. (1995) Ed Harris stars as Gene Kranz, the Flight Director at Mission Control, during the disastrous mission where an explosion in space almost made it impossible for the three astronauts to return home. The fact that they were able to get home was testament to the sheer force of will, and ingenuity of a host of dedicated men. Kevin Bacon played one of the astronauts, a last minute substitution from the back-up crew, because one of the prime crew had been exposed to German Measles.
